About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and capable Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. Working alongside experienced engineers and manufacturing personnel, you will play a key role in the design, development and continuous improvement of our products and production systems.
This is a hands-on role that spans product development, manufacturing support, reverse engineering, and process improvement. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving practical engineering challenges and can confidently take designs from concept through to manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-quality products using SolidWorks.
- Review and refine existing product designs to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and performance.
- Design and develop new products based on customer and industry requirements.
- Create bespoke tooling, jigs and fixtures to support in-house manufacturing processes.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Reverse engineer and model fabricated, machined and sheet metal components.
- Support production teams with design improvements and technical solutions.
- Assist in the delivery of engineering projects, current product development initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide technical support to management and project stakeholders when required.
- Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and internal teams to achieve project outcomes.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have strong SolidWorks capability and a sound understanding of manufacturing processes. You will be a proactive problem solver who enjoys learning, developing and contributing to a positive team culture.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience using SolidWorks in a mechanical design or engineering environment.
- Strong experience with:
- Sheet metal design
- Weldments
- Standard SolidWorks features and assemblies
- Manufacturing drawings and documentation
- Experience applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Exposure to the design and manufacture of:
- Laser cut components
- Press brake formed components
- CNC machined parts
- Turned / lathed components
- Experience measuring, interpreting and reverse engineering components and assemblies.
- Solid attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Positive attitude and a desire for continuous learning and professional growth.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with top-down modelling in SolidWorks.
- Exposure to heat exchanger design or related thermal equipment.
- Experience designing fabricated assemblies and production tooling.
- Familiarity with CAM systems and CNC manufacturing processes.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline preferred.
- Candidates with an Advanced Diploma or Diploma and significant relevant industry experience will also be considered.
