Perioperative Nurse Educator
Brisbane QLD
Permanent, Part Time 60 hours per fortnight or Full Time
Up to $58.19 per hour depending on experience
Our client is looking to hire a Perioperative Nurse Educator to develop the nursing team across all perioperative areas of the hospital.
About the Facility
A private day hospital in Brisbane's northern suburbs, part of a national day hospitals group operating sites across every mainland state and territory. The group has recently introduced a national perioperative education programme for its nursing teams, aligned to ACORN, ACPAN and NSQHS Standards, with a pathway toward speciality certification.
The Role
You will facilitate the professional development of nursing staff across the perioperative areas of the hospital, including the operating suite, the day surgery unit, pre-admission and sterilising services. You will report through the Nurse Unit Manager or Department Coordinator to the CEO and Director of Nursing.
The role is available two ways. Permanent part time at 60 hours per fortnight, or permanent full time. The full time version carries a clinical component, so this is not a desk-based education post. You would continue to work in theatre alongside the team you are developing.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Facilitating the professional development of nursing staff across all perioperative areas
- Orientating new staff and supporting them through to independent practice
- Precepting across the perioperative areas rather than a single speciality
- Developing and running transition to practice programmes for nurses new to perioperative nursing
- Delivering education sessions and in-service training
- Assessing competency and maintaining education and competency records
- Monitoring compliance with mandatory education requirements
- Supporting and mentoring postgraduate students on placement
- Working alongside the group's national perioperative education programme
- Contributing to accreditation, quality and safety programmes
- Working clinically in theatre as part of the role
What You Will Need
- Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Perioperative experience across more than one area, sufficient to precept broadly
- Demonstrated experience precepting, orientating or teaching perioperative nursing staff
- Experience at Clinical Nurse level or equivalent
- Working knowledge of the ACORN Standards and how they apply to practice and competency
- Current Basic Life Support
- Able to meet workforce immunisation requirements
- Unrestricted right to work in Australia
What Is On Offer
- Up to $58.19 per hour depending on experience, paid at Clinical Nurse level under the Nurses' Award 2010
- Permanent part time at 60 hours per fortnight, or permanent full time
- A clinical component, so you keep your hands in theatre rather than moving away from practice
- Access to a national perioperative education programme with a pathway to speciality certification
- Scope across all perioperative areas rather than a single speciality
- Day surgery hours
- A group with sites across Australia, so internal movement is possible
- Chermside, with the Westfield centre, bus interchange and the Gympie Road corridor on the doorstep
Performance Objectives
- Drive Perioperative Education: Design and deliver education across all perioperative areas,
precepting broadly rather than in a single speciality.
- Support Transition to Practice: Develop and run transition-to-practice programmes for nurses new to perioperative nursing.
- Maintain Competency Standards: Assess and maintain competency records aligned to ACORN and NSQHS Standards.
- Stay Clinically Current: Continue working clinically in theatre alongside the team you are developing.
- Mentor Emerging Talent: Support and mentor postgraduate students on placement.
