Our client is looking to hire two Scrub Scout Nurses for general surgery, on a permanent full-time basis.

About the Facility

A private day hospital in Brisbane's northern suburbs, part of a national day hospitals group operating sites across every mainland state and territory. The site runs two theatres, covering general surgery, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, urology, oral and maxillofacial, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The group has recently introduced a national perioperative education programme for its nursing teams, aligned to ACORN, ACPAN and NSQHS Standards.

The Role

You will scrub and scout on general surgery lists, working to ACORN Standards, taking day-to-day direction from the Nurse Unit Manager or Department Coordinator within a structure that reports to the CEO and Director of Nursing.

This is day surgery, so the list moves. Beyond general surgery, the theatre list also covers gastroenterology, ophthalmology, urology, oral and maxillofacial, and plastic and reconstructive surgery, across the site's two theatres. The hospital is looking for nurses who are versatile and open to picking up other specialties over time. You are not expected to arrive holding every speciality the theatre runs.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Scrubbing and scouting on general surgery lists
- Preparing instrumentation, equipment and the sterile field for each case
- Maintaining sterile technique and infection control practice throughout
- Supporting the surgical team through the procedure and managing counts
- Instructing and assisting colleagues in the use of specialised equipment
- Maintaining accurate patient and unit records
- Contributing to accreditation,



quality and safety programmes
- Participating in orientation and teaching of new staff

What You Will Need

- Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse
- Recent scrub and scout experience in general surgery
- Experience in a day surgery or day procedure setting
- Working knowledge of ACORN Standards
- Current Basic Life Support
- Able to meet workforce immunisation requirements
- Unrestricted right to work in Australia

Performance Objectives

- Deliver Safe General Surgery Support: Scrub and scout across general surgery lists, working confidently to ACORN Standards.
- Adapt Across Specialties: Bring versatility to pick up additional day surgery specialties as required, including gastroenterology, ophthalmology, urology, oral and maxillofacial, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
- Maintain Instrument and Equipment Standards:



Support accurate case preparation and instrument management for a moving day list.
- Contribute to Accreditation: Support quality, safety and accreditation programmes through accurate documentation.
- Support New Staff: Participate in orientation and teaching of current team members.
