About The Client

The Imperial College of Australia is an RTO delivering vocational education to international and local students in Security Operations, Hospitality Management, Commercial Cookery. IT and Telecommunication Engineering since 2007.

They now seek an experienced Software Engineer to join their technical team in Abbotsford VIC.

The Role

This is a full time position with an annual salary set at $110,000 plus superannuation.

The Responsibilities

- Analyse business, academic and operational requirements and convert them into secure, scalable software solutions for RTO education delivery.
- Design, develop, test and maintain web applications, student portals, reporting tools and digital workflow systems supporting enrolment, training and administration.
- Developed and maintained end-to-end test automation frameworks using Playwright and TypeScript, improving regression coverage and release confidence.
- Ability to collaborate with developers, business analysts, and academic/administrative stakeholders to ensure application quality.
- Lead and mentor QA and automation teams in delivering high-quality solutions for student, faculty, admissions, enrollment, learning management, and academic administration systems.
- Experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Define software quality engineering practices and mentor technical team members in test automation, API validation, secure development, debugging and AI-assisted engineering techniques.
- Develop data-driven and AI-assisted approaches for defect trend analysis, root-cause investigation and identification of recurring software quality and system reliability issues.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to QA and automation teams, establishing testing standards and best practices for college applications and systems, including student, faculty, admissions, and learning management platforms.




- Integrate automated API, functional and regression testing into CI/CD pipelines to provide continuous quality validation and rapid feedback throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Develop integrations between student management systems, learning platforms, CRM systems, payment systems, reporting tools and compliance-related platforms.
- Build database structures, queries, dashboards and reporting functions for student records, attendance, assessments, course progress and management reporting.
- Automate administrative and academic workflows, including enrolment processing, document generation, student communication, attendance monitoring and compliance reporting.
- Provide technical leadership for end-to-end testing, regression testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing across college and university platforms.
- Troubleshoot software defects, integration failures, user access issues, database inconsistencies and system performance problems.
- Apply cybersecurity controls including authentication, access control, data protection, secure coding, audit logging and privacy safeguards.
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of automation frameworks using Playwright, TypeScript, Selenium, or similar technologies.
- Collaborate with trainers, administration, compliance teams, management and vendors to improve technology-enabled education delivery.
- Maintain software quality through testing, debugging, code review, version control, deployment planning and continuous improvement.




- Leverage AI-powered development tools, including Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and Cursor AI, to support software development, code review, debugging, test automation, documentation and engineering productivity.
- Design and implement AI-assisted testing solutions using LLM-powered tools to accelerate test case generation, code analysis, defect investigation, debugging and automated test maintenance.

The Requirements

- Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Playwright automation using TypeScript, developing and maintaining scalable end-to-end test automation frameworks.
- At least 5 years' experience developing secure software using programming frameworks, databases, APIs, version control, testing processes and structured software development methodologies.
- At least 5 years' experience designing and maintaining database-driven applications, reporting tools, dashboards, data workflows and system integrations for business or education operations.
- At least 5 years' experience supporting learning management systems, student management systems, portals, CRM systems, payment platforms or other enterprise application environments.
- At least 5 years' experience applying cybersecurity, authentication, access control, privacy, data protection, audit logging and secure coding practices in software development.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in test automation using tools such as Playwright/Selenium with TypeScript or Java, integrated with CI/CD pipelines
- Minimum 5 years of experience in software test automation, with at least 3 years in a technical lead or senior testing role.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and deliver high-quality outcomes within defined timelines.
