About the role

The Parliament of Tasmania offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Tasmania's democratic processes through the delivery of impartial, high-quality research and analysis.

As a Research Specialist within the Parliamentary Research Service, you will provide authoritative advice, briefings and research publications that support Members of Parliament, parliamentary committees and parliamentary officers in their scrutiny, debate and decision-making responsibilities. Working across complex policy and legislative issues, you will apply sound judgement, analytical thinking and professional independence to deliver accurate, balanced and timely research outcomes. You’ll be reporting to the Manager, Library and Research Services.

About Us

The Parliament of Tasmania is a meeting place where elected representatives meet to make laws, authorise the expenditure of public funds, scrutinise the government of the day, and give a voice to their constituents in the electorates. The Parliament is made up of three (3) separate Departments consisting of House of Assembly, Legislative Council, and Legislature - General.

Location

We foster a team-oriented and engaging workplace. As such, this role is required to be performed in person and on site in Hobart and may involve work at additional locations depending on operational requirements.

We want to hear from you if you have:

- Demonstrated experience conducting complex research, analysis and evaluation of legislation, policy, data and emerging issues.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise and accessible manner.

- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities supported by sound professional judgement.

- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes.

- A proven commitment to accuracy, confidentiality,



impartiality and professional integrity.

- Relevant tertiary qualifications and research or policy analysis experience, preferably in one or more of the role's portfolio areas.

- The ability to build productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and contribute positively within a collaborative team environment.

- Have or be able to obtain a ‘Registration to Work with Vulnerable People’ and ‘national police record check’.

Essential Requirements
