ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Prime Mover Driver at our Hume ACT Truss & Frame plant, you are a brand ambassador of Dahlsens. You will safely load, transport and unload prefabricated wall frames, roof trusses and other timber components to trade customers across the ACT and surrounding region, ensuring goods reach site on time, in full and to customer specifications every trip.
Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will operate a HC Prime Mover with a vehicle loading crane, take ownership of your daily runs, and safely load and unload using dogging, rigging and forklift skills. You will maintain telephone or radio contact with the plant, secure your load using appropriate bearers and ties, and represent Dahlsens across every site you visit.
This is a hands-on, safety-first role that suits a skilled ticketed driver who takes pride in a clean driving record, enjoys building rapport with builders, and brings a can-do attitude every day.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
- Safely loading and unloading prefabricated frames, trusses and building materials
- Operating the vehicle loading crane safely to load and unload the truck when required
- Securing deliveries during transit using appropriate bearers, straps and ties
- Driving the Prime Mover respectfully to the destination and ensuring correct goods are delivered in good condition
- Ensuring appropriate documentation accompanies each load and verifying loads match delivery paperwork
- Maintaining telephone or radio contact with the plant to receive delivery instructions and updates
- Performing daily maintenance checks of the vehicle including oil, water, tyre pressure and cleanliness
- Reporting truck faults for resolution and completing servicing schedule requirements
- Adhering to all safety regulations on-site and complying with road regulations and laws while driving
- Assisting in the production or yard area when needed or directed by the Branch Manager
- Manual handling of timber, plasterboard and other building materials (lifting up to 25kg, occasionally up to 40kg in a dual lift)
- Reporting hazards, near misses and incidents promptly via Donesafe
- Living the 'Our Circle of Care' principles – See, Say, Listen, Stop – and looking out for the safety of yourself, your team, our customers and the community
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Current Heavy Combination (HC) Driver's Licence (mandatory)
- Licence to perform Dogging (DG) (mandatory)
- Licence to operate a forklift truck (LF) (mandatory)
- Licence to perform Rigging Basic Level (RB) (mandatory)
- Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above) (CV) (mandatory)
- Clean and untarnished driving record with no infringements
- Proven experience in a warehouse or storage yard environment (preferred)
- Some product experience, particularly with timber and building materials (preferred)
- Customer service experience and skills in issue resolution
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to handle customer queries on site
- Physically capable of shifting, manoeuvring and storing stock in line with WHS practices
- A reliable team player who is energetic, honest, safety-first and brings a can-do attitude every day
