Teach where relationships matter, culture shapes learning and your contribution can make a visible difference.
Located off the northernmost tip of Queensland, between Cape York and Papua New Guinea, Tagai State College connects 17 campuses across 15 Torres Strait islands. The school provides education from Kindergarten to Year 12, with teaching and learning grounded in Torres Strait culture, language and the aspirations of local communities.
We're seeking Early childhood, primary and special education teachers for our smaller island communities for 2026 and 2027. These are more than teaching opportunities—they're a chance to become part of a unique island community. Immerse yourself in the rich culture, build meaningful connections and experience the rewarding lifestyle of living and working in the outer islands of the Torres Strait.
Why teach at Tagai?
You'll have the chance to:
- build strong relationships with students, families and communities
- make a meaningful contribution in a small school community
- learn from the cultures, languages and traditions of the Torres Strait
- develop your teaching practice in a unique and rewarding setting
- experience living and working in one of Queensland's most distinctive regions.
Teachers across all Tagai campuses can also access a range of incentives and benefits, including:
- attractive rural and remote financial incentives
- relocation and travel assistance
- subsidised departmental housing
- professional development and career progression opportunities.

We encourage applications from graduate and experienced teachers across early childhood, primary and special education teaching areas.
You'll need to be adaptable, committed to student success and ready to listen, learn and contribute to the community.
