ABOUT THE POSITION
- Job Title: Agricultural Plant Operator
- Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Location: Newdegate, Western Australia
- Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 + superannuation (commensurate with experience)
Position Description
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Agricultural Plant Operator to join our team based in Newdegate, Western Australia. The role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and basic maintenance of modern agricultural machinery and equipment across our cropping, livestock, and feedlot operations. You will play a vital role during peak seasonal workloads including seeding and harvest, ensuring high precision and minimal downtime.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Machinery & Earthmoving Operation: Safely operate grain harvesters, hay balers, tractors, loaders, telehandlers, seeders, sprayers, spreaders, and earthmoving/material handling equipment.
- Precision Agriculture: Set up, calibrate, and operate GPS-guided systems and auto-steer technologies for precision cultivation, planting, and crop protection; maintain accurate field records.
- Heavy Vehicle Transport: Safely transport grain, livestock, hay, fertilizer, and agricultural inputs on public roads in compliance with Australian road transport legislation.
- Maintenance & Servicing: Perform routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on agricultural plant and equipment to minimize operational downtime.
- Feedlot & Livestock Support: Prepare and deliver feed using specialized equipment, monitor feed bunks, and assist with cattle movement, drafting, weighing, and animal welfare routines.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures, NFAS standards, biosecurity protocols, and keep detailed operational records.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience operating modern agricultural machinery and precision equipment using GPS guidance/auto-steer.
- Experience operating heavy vehicles within an agricultural environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability to perform routine machinery servicing and troubleshoot minor faults.
- Experience working with livestock and cattle feedlot operations.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team, with a strong commitment to safety and high attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Heavy Vehicle Licence (HC or MC preferred).
- Forklift and/or Telehandler Competency / Certification.
- Chemical Users Certificate and First Aid Certificate.
- Experience operating feed mixers and specialized grain handling equipment.
