Room Leader – Early Childhood Education and Care
Service: One Tree Defence Unit Little Geckos
Location: RAAF Base Tindal, Tindal NT
Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
Hours: 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Base Hourly Rate: $40.70 per hour
One Tree Defence Unit Little Geckos – Tindal NT Located at RAAF Base Tindal, just 15 kilometres outside of Katherine, Little Geckos provides early childhood education and care to Australian Defence personnel and their families.
Katherine is the fourth-largest settlement in the Northern Territory and is known as the place where the outback meets the tropics. Situated on the Katherine River, approximately 320 kilometres south-east of Darwin, the region offers an incredible lifestyle for those looking for adventure, community and a rewarding career.
Little Geckos has capacity for 73 children and operates between 7:00am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. Our team has created three dedicated learning environments designed to support children across different age groups and stages of development.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Room Leader to join our team at Little Geckos on a permanent, full time basis.
Working 38 hours per week across Monday to Friday, you will take a leadership role within your room, supporting the delivery of high-quality early childhood education and care while guiding and collaborating with fellow educators.
You will play an important role in creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment for children while building positive and respectful relationships with families, colleagues and the Defence community.
This role is suited to an experienced early childhood professional who is confident leading a room, supporting other educators and contributing to the ongoing development of educational programs and practices.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation and educational practice within your room
- Provide high-quality education and care to children
- Develop, implement and evaluate engaging educational programs and learning experiences
- Support, guide and mentor educators working within the room
- Promote children's learning, development, wellbeing and sense of belonging
- Maintain accurate observations, documentation and educational records
- Build positive and professional relationships with children and families
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and service leadership
- Build strong connections with Defence families and the wider Little Geckos community
- Contribute to the service's continuous improvement and quality improvement processes
About You To be considered for this position, you will need:
- A Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or ACECQA-approved equivalent
- Previous experience working within an early childhood education and care environment
- Previous experience as a Room Leader or in a similar leadership position
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing educational programs
- Sound knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Framework
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, support and collaborate with a team of educators
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with children and families
- A commitment to providing safe, inclusive and high-quality education and care
- Ability to meet all regulatory and employment requirements applicable to the position
