The Opportunity
A position within a well-established, privately owned fabrication and manufacturing business. This role sits at the intersection of production, planning, and supply chain, taking ownership of job coordination from sales handover through to delivery and invoicing.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring all production jobs are technically prepared, accurately costed from a materials perspective, and tracked through each stage of the workshop lifecycle — from procurement and cutting through to fabrication, finishing, and dispatch.
This is a strong opportunity for someone with a fabrication or trade background looking to transition off the tools into a coordination/planning pathway, while still leveraging their technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities

- Track and maintain real-time job status across all stages: procurement, cutting, preparation, mark-up, welding, finishing and dispatch
- Identify and escalate production risks, bottlenecks, or delays, working with planning and workshop teams to mitigate impact on delivery
Material Take-Offs & Planning Input
- Perform detailed material take-offs from drawings, generating accurate Bills of Materials aligned to fabrication tolerances and process requirements
- Develop efficient cutting lists,
optimising material utilisation and reducing waste
- Determine appropriate sourcing strategy (processed vs parent material lengths) in line with planning and workshop capability
Procurement & Supply Chain Coordination
- Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials and consumables
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, correct specifications, and adherence to lead times
- Monitor and expedite deliveries to ensure materials are available in line with production schedules
Workshop & Cross-Functional Liaison
- Work closely with production, planning, engineering, and sales teams to ensure alignment on job scope, timelines, and delivery expectations
- Participate in production/operations meetings, providing updates on job progress, constraints, and exceptions
- Ensure workflow sequencing aligns with workshop capacity and resource availability
Quality, Documentation & Traceability
- Maintain accurate job records including QC documentation, material traceability, and delivery records
- Ensure all quality documentation is captured, verified, and stored in line with internal and ISO-aligned processes
- Reconcile delivery dockets against sales orders,
ensuring accuracy for invoicing and audit purposes
Customer & Delivery Coordination
- Provide technical and progress updates to internal stakeholders and, where required, customers
- Coordinate with transport/logistics to ensure on-time delivery and correct documentation handling
- Support end-to-end visibility of orders from release through to proof of delivery
About You
- Trade-qualified or hands-on experience in fabrication, welding, or manufacturing environments
- Solid understanding of fabrication processes, material properties, and workshop workflows
- Ability to interpret engineering/fabrication drawings and translate into material and production requirements
- Experience with material take-offs, cutting lists, or estimating highly regarded
- Familiarity with steel supply chains, processing methods, and procurement practices
- Comfortable working across multiple systems (Excel, SharePoint, ERP/MRP or similar)
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple jobs concurrently in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Technical Exposure
- Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Exposure to ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems
- Experience with software such as AutoCAD, Beamline, or production/job tracking systems
- Understanding of welding processes, tolerances, and QA requirements within fabrication environments
