MCJ Appointments is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to support a local council in developing safe, efficient and well-connected transport networks.
This role will provide specialist traffic engineering advice across road infrastructure, development applications, transport planning, community matters and capital works projects. You will work closely with internal teams, government agencies, consultants and the community to deliver practical, evidence-based traffic solutions.

Key responsibilities:

- Assess infrastructure requirements for roads, intersections, cycleways and footpaths
- Review traffic impacts associated with developments, projects and community events
- Prepare Traffic Committee reports, Council reports and technical recommendations
- Coordinate traffic studies and transport-planning investigations
- Provide technical advice on development applications and Council projects
- Liaise with government agencies, public transport providers and community stakeholders
- Prepare funding applications and manage traffic and transport capital works projects
- Maintain traffic databases and accurate project records
- Support the development of traffic policies, procedures and road-safety initiatives
- Conduct site inspections and field investigations

To be successful, you will require:

- Qualifications in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or substantial relevant experience




- Demonstrated experience in traffic and transport engineering
- Robust knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures
- Experience preparing technical reports and recommendations
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong analytical, project-management and problem-solving capability
- A current driver’s licence
- The ability to attend occasional after-hours meetings

Experience in local government, traffic-modelling software, MS Project, MS Access and relevant road-safety or traffic-management accreditations will be highly regarded.
