Join ACON as an ACON Testing Services Worker (Casual) and help deliver peer-led, community-based rapid HIV testing, sexual health screening and health promotion for gay, bi+ and queer men, and other men who have sex with men across NSW.

- We’re looking for a casual peer to support the delivery of rapid HIV testing, sexual health screening and community health promotion through ACON’s a[TEST] services and related testing activities.
- This role is a chance to contribute to a peer-led service that makes HIV and STI testing more convenient, welcoming and accessible for our communities.
- This is a casual opportunity with work available across standard business hours, evenings and Saturdays, supporting services at multiple sites across the Greater Sydney Area.

You'll be a part of the ACON Testing Services team, which delivers peer-led, community-based rapid HIV testing, sexual health screening and health promotion in partnership with local sexual health services. The team supports regular HIV and STI testing among gay, bi+ and queer men, and other men who have sex with men, while promoting combination prevention strategies including condoms, PrEP, PEP and undetectable viral load.

Ok, so what’s the role?

The ACON Testing Services Worker (Casual) is essentially responsible for delivering peer and community-based testing services and health promotion responses that meet the needs of gay, bi+ and queer men, and other men who have sex with men. You will:

- Explain, administer, read and provide results of rapid HIV tests, and support other testing activities delivered through a[TEST] and related services.
- Provide community health promotion on HIV combination prevention strategies, including condoms, PrEP, PEP and undetectable viral load.
- Identify client needs, provide appropriate support or referral,



maintain records and statistics, and contribute to strong service delivery, team culture and partnerships.

Who are we looking for?

- Someone with a strong understanding of and commitment to ACON’s communities, particularly gay and same sex attracted men, people living with HIV, and other LGBTQ+ people.
- Someone with strong communication, administration and organisational skills who can work collaboratively, engage diverse communities, and support peer-based service delivery across multiple sites.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
- ​​​​​​​Willingness to meet clinical and onboarding requirements (including relevant checks and vaccinations).

What else can we tell you?​​​

- Salary: $52.5150 per hour worked (PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading).
- Location: Work available across standard business hours, evenings and Saturdays, supporting services at multiple sites across the Greater Sydney Area.
- Hours: Casual on an ongoing contract.

Skills And Experiences

Essential:

1. Lived experience as a gay, bi+, queer or other man who has sex with men, with a strong understanding of the factors impacting the sexual health and wellbeing of GBQMSM communities, including HIV testing and STI screening needs, people living with HIV and broader LGBTQ+ communities.
2. Understanding of the value and principles of peer-based education within the context of health promotion and community development practice.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively in a continuous client-facing role and remain calm and qualified in high-pressure situations.
4. Proven administration and organisational skills, including the ability to use Microsoft 365 confidently, meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.
5. Regular availability to work within, and outside of, standard business hours (Monday-Friday, evenings, and Saturdays), as well as the ability to work remotely and across numerous sites around the Greater Sydney Area.
6. Ability and willingness to meet clinical and onboarding requirements in line with Local Health District and community engagement settings, including relevant documentation, required vaccinations and assessments, and a current NSW Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable:

1. Proficiency in a language other than English, with preference for Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese, or languages from Asia or the Pacific, to support effective engagement with multicultural communities.
2. Recommended vaccinations against illness that may adversely impact ACON’s communities, including CoVid-19 and Mpox.
