The ACCC is looking for flexible individuals capable of working under limited direction to perform a range of business analysis related duties, including project delivery, managing and mentoring more junior Business Analysts, and taking on responsibilities for the Business Analysis competency within IMTS.
You will contribute to project, program and organisational success by working closely with business, technical, and project teams to gather, validate, and document requirements. You will be involved in all parts of the project lifecycle and play an important role in supporting the business teams to transition to new ways of working.
The key duties of the position include:
As the Assistant Director, Business Analyst, you will:
- Lead a team of professionals, role modelling our leadership behaviours, supporting a professional and team-oriented working environment, coaching, giving continuous feedback, resolving conflict and facilitating career development.
- Manage and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand the business domain, elicit requirements, challenge assumptions, and secure alignment.
- Analyse the problem domain, its processes, systems and data, to build domain expertise and guide solution design, discover new solution opportunities, identify business impacts, and mitigate project risks and issues.
- Capture knowledge, requirements/features, and designs in documents, presentations, and backlog items to direct project deliverables, communicate ideas and concepts, and inform team decision-making.
- Collaborate with product owners and project management to build and refine product backlogs to ensure the most appropriate prioritisation and delivery scheduling aligned to business value.
- Engage in all Scrum events, assisting with sprint planning, backlog refinement and ordering, requirements comprehension, and delivery improvements.
- Support user acceptance testing, production verification testing and release management, to assure quality outcomes and maximise delivery efficiency.
- Participate in and drive the continual improvement of ways of working.
Eligibility
All candidates are expected to meet the APS Integrated Leadership Profile (ILS) for the classification advertised. Follow the link for more information on the ILS. This role in particular requires:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Business Analysts through effective management, guidance and mentoring, while building and maintaining productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation.
- Experience leading and driving digital transition and helping to embed change, including leading large programs of work.
- Ability to identify risks and benefits of existing and proposed solutions and communicate effectively to influence the strategic direction of ICT delivery for the benefit of its users.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with business stakeholders and multidisciplinary delivery teams to elicit and define business requirements and user stories and contribute to the design and delivery of fit-for-purpose solutions that meet organisational needs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse complex business processes, data and products to identify risks, benefits and improvement opportunities, while effectively prioritising competing demands and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver outcomes within required timeframes.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or at least 5 years’ experience.

The following job specific criteria are also highly desirable:
- Experience working within the APS.
- Experience in agile methodology.
- The ability to apply user-design principles in an ICT agile delivery setting.
