We’re looking for a Speech Pathologist to join our multidisciplinary team at our purpose-built Therapy, Play and Therapy Kitchen Space in Hastings.

The position is open to clinicians from HPSS Level 1–3; from current graduates and early-career Speech Pathologists through to experienced clinicians looking for greater autonomy and the opportunity to develop an area of clinical interest.

We would particularly love to hear from Speech Pathologists with an interest or experience in feeding and swallowing — whether that experience has been in paediatric or adult practice.

You may already work in paediatric feeding. You may have developed strong feeding and swallowing skills working with adults and be interested in extending those skills into paediatrics. Or you may be an early-career clinician with a genuine interest in developing feeding as an area of practice.

You don't need to arrive knowing everything about paediatric feeding. You'll work alongside experienced paediatric dietitians and feeding clinicians, with opportunities to develop your skills through supervision, multidisciplinary practice and dedicated professional development.

About Family Allied Health

Family Allied Health is the multidisciplinary allied health arm of Family Dietetics, bringing together clinicians who share a commitment to practical, evidence-based and family-centred care.

For more than 10 years, Family Dietetics has built a strong reputation in paediatric nutrition, feeding and multidisciplinary child health. Our 'Therapy Kitchen' model was developed to give clinicians something different from a traditional consulting room: purpose-built spaces where therapy can be practical, collaborative and connected to everyday life.

As Family Allied Health grows, we are bringing together Speech Pathologists and other allied health professionals to work alongside our established dietetics, early childhood educators and feeding teams.

Our clinicians currently work from Therapy Kitchens and thoughtfully designed clinic spaces — purpose-built allied health spaces designed and suitable for all members of the family to learn within; children, adolescents, adults and families with space for multidisciplinary care. These include consulting and play spaces as well as real kitchens where feeding and mealtime therapy can happen in the environment where those skills make sense.

For Speech Pathologists, this creates opportunities to build a varied paediatric caseload, or if you prefer, an adult caseload; or you may wish to work across both and keep your knowledge broad; while also developing or extending an interest in feeding and swallowing.

Your Clinical Work

Your caseload may include infants, children and adolescents presenting with:

- Speech sound and articulation difficulties

- Receptive and expressive language difficulties

- Social communication differences

- Neurodevelopmental presentations

- Feeding skill difficulties

- Delayed progression through food textures

- Oral-motor and oral feeding skill concerns

- Selective or restricted eating

- Sensory and developmental factors affecting eating

- Paediatric Feeding Disorder and complex mealtime presentations

- Feeding and communication needs associated with disability.

Or alternatively it may be a caseload with a strong transition, disability, dysphagia and feeding focus:

- Communication and swallowing needs associated with progressive neurological conditions and disability

- Acquired communication and swallowing difficulties following stroke, brain injury or other neurological injury

- Dysphagia assessment, management and rehabilitation

- Oral-motor skill development and rehabilitation





- Supporting safe progression or modification of food and fluid textures

- Communication rehabilitation following illness, injury or neurological change

- Adults with lifelong developmental or communication disabilities requiring ongoing speech pathology support

- Feeding and swallowing support for adults experiencing eating disorders, ARFID or restricted eating, within the clinician’s scope of practice and as part of multidisciplinary care

- Supporting oral-motor skills, eating confidence and progression towards a broader range of textures where clinically appropriate

- Mealtime participation and functional eating goals for adults with disability

- Young adults transitioning from paediatric to adult services who continue to require support with communication, feeding, swallowing or mealtime participation

- Collaborative care with dietitians, medical practitioners and other allied health professionals for complex feeding, swallowing and rehabilitation presentations

Your caseload will reflect your experience, interests and individual scope of practice.

Feeding at Food play Grow

Feeding and our approach to whole person and whole family is an important part of what makes us different.

Patients may be referred to us because of restricted intake, difficulty progressing through textures, sensory-based food aversions, gagging or distress around food, delayed feeding skills, nutritional concerns or difficulty participating in family or social meals.

Our approach is individualised, responsive, developmentally appropriate and multidisciplinary.

Speech Pathologists have the opportunity to work alongside specialised dietitians and other feeding clinicians to understand the interaction between feeding skills, communication, sensory processing, development, nutrition and the child's broader experience of eating.

Our purpose-built Therapy Kitchen spaces, of which there are two at Food Play Grow allows therapy to happen where many of these skills actually matter; around food, at a bench top and table and in a practical environment with people that support them.

What You'll Do

As a Speech Pathologist at Family Allied Health, you will:

- Provide evidence-based speech pathology assessment and intervention to children and adolescents

- Develop individualised therapy plans in partnership with children and their families

- Support communication, feeding and participation goals that are meaningful in everyday life

- Undertake feeding and swallowing assessment and intervention within your individual scope of practice

- Work collaboratively with dietitians and other allied health professionals on multidisciplinary feeding presentations

- Deliver therapy within our consulting rooms, play spaces and purpose-built Therapy Kitchen

- Provide practical education and strategies to parents and caregivers

- Liaise with paediatricians, GPs, educators and'any other professionals involved in a patients care

- Maintain high-quality clinical documentation and meet relevant professional, organisational and funding requirements

- Participate in clinical supervision, case discussion and multidisciplinary team activities

- Contribute positively to a collaborative, supportive and curious clinical culture.

What We're Looking For

Essential

- Bachelor or Masters qualification in Speech Pathology recognised in Australia

- Eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia

- Current Working with Children Check

- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness and eligibility to obtain one prior to commencement

- Eligibility to work in Australia

- A family-centred and evidence-informed approach to clinical practice

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills

- Willingness to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

- Commitment to ongoing learning, supervision and professional development

- Commitment to providing high-quality, ethical and accountable clinical care within a private practice setting.

- Interest or experience in feeding and swallowing, in either paediatric or adult practice

- A desire to develop or extend skills in paediatric / adult feeding

- Experience working with children or adults with developmental differences or disability

- Experience with complex feeding or swallowing presentations

- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

New graduates and early-career Speech Pathologists with a genuine interest in developing their skills in paediatrics and feeding are encouraged to apply.
