Who we are
NORSTA Maritime is the Regional Maintenance Provider to the Regional Maintenance Centre North-East, delivering project management capabilities, technical expertise and quality assurance activities for the Department of Defence, including the Royal Australian Navy.
Our advanced maritime sustainment planning coordinates fleet maintenance at scale across Far North Queensland, including Northern Australia and adjacent waters for the Commonwealth of Australia.
Due to demand for our services, we are expanding rapidly and developing further capacity for more vessel platforms.
NOTE: Due to NORSTA Maritime's position as a Department of Defence contractor, we require all employees to be Australian citizens and able to hold a minimum Baseline Security Clearance with the ability to obtain access passes to HMAS Cairns and Cairns-based shipyards. A National Criminal History Police Check will also be undertaken.
About the role
The HSE Administrator provides administrative and systems support to NORSTA's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) function, helping maintain accurate records, reliable HSE data and effective safety systems across NORSTA operations. This is an entry-level/junior HSE position suited to someone with strong administration and organisational skills who is interested in developing a career in Health, Safety and Environment. Working closely with the HSE Manager and HSE Advisors, the role will provide exposure to a broad range of HSE activities, including safety systems, incident and hazard reporting, inspections, audits, training, compliance, data analysis and reporting. NORSTA will support the successful candidate to develop their HSE knowledge and practical experience, with a explicit development pathway toward more senior HSE roles as their skills, qualifications and experience grow.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of NORSTA's digital HSE platform, HammerTech, including inductions, incidents, hazards, inspections, corrective actions and training records.
- Enter, review and maintain HSE information to ensure records are accurate, complete and current.
- Assist with managing user accounts, access and contractor information within HSE systems.
- Provide basic system support to employees and contractors using HammerTech.
- Follow up outstanding HSE records, actions, training and documentation as directed by the HSE team.
- Maintain HSE registers, records and supporting documentation, including inductions, licences, competencies, inspections, audits, incidents, corrective actions and risk assessments.
- Monitor expiry dates and outstanding requirements and provide reminders to relevant personnel.
- Assist with the preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly HSE reports and compile HSE statistics and data.
- Provide general administrative support to the HSE Manager and HSE Advisors.
- Participate in workplace inspections, safety walkarounds and other HSE activities to develop practical knowledge and experience.
About you
- Previous experience in an administration, systems, compliance, document control or similar support role.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining accurate records and working with electronic systems.
- Strong administration, organisation and records-management skills.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate information.
- Good computer skills and confidence learning new software and digital systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and follow up outstanding information or actions.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of workplace health and safety.
