The Opportunity, Where You Come In:

Talis’ Investigations team has extensive experience in a wide range of contaminated site investigations, including soil and groundwater assessment and remediation, PFAS, mine site closure, asbestos and hazardous materials, acid sulphate soils, landfill gas, risk assessment, geochemistry, geology, and hydrogeology.

As we continue to expand our services nationally, we are seeking an experienced and highly regarded Senior-Principal Environmental Consultant to join our East Coast team. While our preference is for someone based in Newcastle, NSW, we will also consider exceptional candidates located in Brisbane, QLD.

Working within a team of 10 environmental professionals, you will take a leading role in delivering contaminated sites projects from inception through to completion while contributing to the strategic growth of our business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven professional who is looking to build and grow their own contaminated sites team, develop long-term client relationships, and play a key role in shaping the future direction of our investigation's capability.

This is a permanent full‑time opportunity offering the chance to growing your own contaminated sites team.

In this role, you will:

- Lead and deliver contaminated sites investigations, assessments and remediation projects.

- Coordinate and supervise field investigations, including drilling, sampling, remediation works and contractor management.

- Remain actively involved in fieldwork activities and provide practical, hands-on technical leadership.

- Manage projects from inception to completion, including budgets, schedules, quality assurance and client expectations.

- Prepare and review high-quality technical reports, risk assessments and management plans.

- Develop fee proposals, technical scopes and tender submissions.

- Build,



manage and grow a portfolio of clients through effective relationship management and business development.

- Identify and pursue new business opportunities that contribute to the growth of the contaminated sites practice.

- Recruit, onboard, train, mentor and develop junior environmental consultants.

- Interpret complex environmental data and develop practical, risk-based solutions for clients.

- Liaise with clients, regulators, contaminated site auditors, contractors and stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

- Contribute to continuous improvement, technical excellence and strategic growth initiatives across the business.

What we are looking for:

- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Geology or a related discipline.

- 10+ years' experience in contaminated sites consulting, with strong expertise in environmental investigations, assessment and remediation.

- Demonstrated experience operating at Senior or Principal Consultant level, with the capability to lead projects and develop teams.

- A strong background in contaminated sites investigations and a reputation for delivering high-quality technical outcomes.

- Experience in asbestos and hazardous materials assessment and management, ideally to Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA) level.

- Strong references supporting your ability to successfully manage environmental investigation and remediation projects.

- Mine site operational and/or closure experience.

- Demonstrated expertise in planning, coordinating and delivering complex technical investigations.

- Exceptional field investigation, data interpretation and technical reporting skills.

- Experience preparing and reviewing high-quality technical reports and regulatory submissions.

- Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules and resources.

- A demonstrated track record of client relationship management, portfolio growth and generating repeat business.

- Proven business development capability, including preparing proposals, winning work and expanding client accounts.





- Strong understanding of contaminated sites legislation, guidelines and regulatory frameworks.

- Demonstrated experience applying:

- NSW and/or QLD Contaminated Sites Guidelines

- PFAS National Environmental Management Plan (NEMP)

- National Environment Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure (NEPM)

- Experience in hydrogeological, acid sulphate soil and geotechnical investigations.

- Understanding of contemporary contaminated land remediation techniques.

- Experience applying Source-Pathway-Receptor conceptual site modelling.

- A commitment to mentoring, coaching and developing emerging environmental professionals.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Current driver's licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork and occasional travel.

- Permanent Australian residency or unrestricted Australian working rights.

- A career goal of obtaining or maintaining EIANZ Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) status.
