Darwin, NT Traineeship pathway to Telecommunications Technician / Optic Fibre Splicer
We're looking for a reliable, hard-working Cable Hauler / Labourer to join our telecommunications field team, servicing Darwin and the wider Northern Territory. This is a excellent entry point into the telco industry, with a genuine pathway to a traineeship as a Telecommunications Technician and Optic Fibre Splicer for the right candidate.
About the Role
You'll support our field crews with the physical work of cable installation — hauling, laying, and placing fibre optic and telecommunications cable across underground, aerial, and duct-based runs. Over time, as you build experience and show the right attitude, there's real chance to move into a structured traineeship covering fibre splicing, testing, and broader technician skills.
Key Responsibilities
Haul, lay, and install telecommunications cable (underground, aerial, and duct/conduit runs)
Assist technicians with site setup, equipment handling, and general labouring duties
Dig trenches, lay conduit, and support civil works as required
Maintain a safe, tidy work site and follow all WHS procedures
Load, unload, and manage materials and equipment on site
Support senior technicians during splicing and testing work, learning as you go
Travel to job sites across Darwin and regional NT as required
What We're Looking For
Physically fit and comfortable with manual labour, including working outdoors in NT conditions
Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic
Willingness to learn and take direction from senior field staff
A current driver's licence (essential)
Comfortable working at heights, in trenches, and in confined spaces (training provided)
Willingness to travel to remote and regional sites, including overnight stays when required
No prior telco experience necessary — this role is about attitude and willingness to learn
Nice to Have
Prior experience in labouring, construction, or civil works
White Card (construction induction)
Interest in pursuing a long-term career in telecommunications
What We Offer
On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced field technicians
A explicit pathway to a traineeship in fibre splicing and telecommunications
Vehicle and tools of trade provided for work purposes
Supportive team environment with room to grow
We are an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
Pay: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
