Magistrates Clerks play a central role in the delivery
of justice in South Australia
As a Magistrates Clerk, you will work at the heart of the
courtroom, supporting Magistrates to ensure proceedings run
smoothly, fairly and with respect to the authority of the Court.
This is a dynamic and highly visible role that combines courtroom
coordination with high-level administrative support in
Chambers.
Every day brings new challenges. You'll coordinate the orderly
flow of matters before the Magistrate, anticipate and resolve
issues as they arise, and liaise with judicial officers, legal
practitioners, government agencies and members of the public,
including self-represented parties. Outside of court, you'll
prepare accurate records, orders, judgments and case files,
ensuring the integrity of the Court's work is maintained.
This is not a standard administrative role. It requires
professionalism, discretion and initiative in a highly formal and
public setting. You'll be relied upon to make quick, sound
decisions under pressure while supporting the proper administration
and independence of the Court
What we're looking for
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage
competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Composure, professionalism and attention to detail in a
formal courtroom setting.
Initiative and sound judgment to anticipate issues,
problem-solve and support smooth proceedings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to engage
respectfully with diverse court users.
Proficiency with technology, including case management
systems and Microsoft Office.
Willingness to travel across South Australia, including
overnight circuits.
Typing speed of at least 50 wpm with 98% accuracy is required.
Coaching, mentoring or experience in a legal or court setting will
be highly regarded.
Why join us?
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to
the fair and efficient delivery of justice in South Australia.
You'll be part of a highly respected institution, working alongside
the judiciary in a position of trust, professionalism and
responsibility.
After an initial training period of at least three months,
Clerks gain diverse experience working across all jurisdictions
within the Magistrates Court, including the Youth Court. The
role offers variety and scope to travel to different court
locations – from the busy CBD and suburban courts to regional
circuits across South Australia – providing a rare opportunity to
see the justice system in action throughout the State.
Applicants are encouraged to attend an open court session at the
Magistrates Court to see what the role of a Magistrates Clerk
entails.

ASO3 ($74,095 - $78,694 per annum)

any jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court of Youth Court, or
any business unit on a temporary or ongoing basis.
