We are seeking an experienced
Workshop Paint Supervisor- Surface Preparation & Coatings
to join our Welshpool team and oversee the delivery of surface preparation and protective coating works within our workshop.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced coatings professional who can combine hands-on technical knowledge with strong leadership and supervisory capability.
About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the relevant Manager, you will be responsible for supervising workshop painting and coating activities, coordinating personnel and resources, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
You will play a key role in managing day-to-day workshop activities, ensuring coating specifications are met and maintaining high standards across surface preparation, application and inspection.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate workshop painting, blasting and coating activities
Lead and support a team of painters, blasters and coating personnel
Plan daily work scopes, allocate resources and monitor workflow and productivity
Ensure surface preparation and coating application are completed in accordance with specifications and required standards
Monitor coating quality, including surface preparation, application and dry film thickness (DFT)
Conduct or coordinate coating inspections and maintain required quality documentation
Ensure correct preparation, mixing and application of coating products
Identify and address quality issues, rework requirements and production delays




Ensure compliance with workshop safety procedures, SWIs, environmental requirements and relevant standards
Maintain accurate records, reports and quality documentation
Work closely with management, supervisors, clients and other workshop teams to meet project requirements
Mentor and develop team members to promote a strong safety, quality and performance culture
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in workshop processes and coating practices
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application (MSM*****)
or equivalent trade qualification
Minimum
5 years' experience in a supervisory role
within industrial painting, protective coatings or surface preparation
Strong experience in a
workshop or heavy industrial environment
Extensive knowledge of surface preparation, abrasive blasting and protective coating application
Experience supervising painting and coating teams and coordinating multiple work scopes
NACE CIP Level 1 / AMPP Basic Coatings Inspector Level 1

is a MUST
Strong understanding of coating specifications, inspection requirements and quality control
Experience with
Dry Film Thickness (DFT)
measurement and coating inspection
Strong understanding of WHS requirements, risk assessments, SWIs and safe work practices
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and coating requirements
Robust planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
