Our client is a proudly Australian, market leading retail and wholesale business with a loyal customer base and a growing store and e-commerce network in the sporting goods and apparel space. As the finance team continues to grow alongside the business, they're looking for an Assistant Accountant to support the day-to-day financial operations of a busy, multi-channel retail setting.
This is a great opportunity for an early-career accountant who wants genuine exposure to retail — working closely with the Finance Manager, getting involved in month-end, reconciliations, reporting, intercompany and BAS. The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will support month-end processes, reconciliations, reporting, BAS and ad hoc tasks across the business, with particular exposure to group and wholesale.
What You'll Be Doing




Assisting with month-end close, including journal entries and accruals
Preparing balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, inventory and accruals
Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Assisting with statutory reporting, audit preparation and compliance requirements
Preparing BAS and other routine tax and compliance submissions
Ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support the wider finance team
Contributing to process improvement and reporting automation initiatives
What You'll Bring
Qualified or working towards CA/CPA (or equivalent), with a relevant degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance
2 plus years experience in an accounting or finance role, ideally within retail, FMCG or consumer goods but open to a first move from audit
Strong Excel skills and comfort working with ERP/accounting systems
Good attention to detail and a genuine interest in retail/wholesale
Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first approach
