Legal Counsel - Perth, WA | Permanent | Commercial Projects Focus An opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join a leading Australian organisation operating across the mining and resources sector.
Working as part of an established legal function this role will partner closely with commercial, operational and project teams - providing practical legal advice across complex contracts and major project activities.
This would particularly suit a lawyer with a background in construction, projects, mining or engineering who is looking for a hands-on in-house role with strong exposure to the commercial and operational side of the business.
The Role You will provide legal and commercial support across a diverse portfolio of mining and project activities, including: Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts including mining services, construction, supply, procurement and subcontract agreements Providing practical advice on contractual and commercial risk Supporting tendering, contract negotiations and project mobilisation Working closely with commercial, operational and project teams throughout the contract lifecycle Advising on contractual rights, obligations, variations and claims Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution Assisting with governance,
compliance and broader corporate legal matters as required Engaging with external legal advisers where appropriate Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation About You You will be an Australian-admitted lawyer with experience gained either in-house or within a construction/projects practice .
Ideally, you will bring: Approximately 3–7 years' post-admission experience , although candidates outside this range with relevant experience are encouraged to apply Experience across construction, mining, resources, engineering or major projects Robust commercial contract drafting and negotiation capability Exposure to EPC, EPCM, construction, mining services, procurement or supply agreements would be highly regarded A practical and commercially focused approach to legal advice The ability to communicate effectively with both legal and non-legal stakeholders An interest in working closely with operational and commercial teams rather than operating purely as a technical legal adviser This could also be an excellent opportunity for a construction/projects lawyer currently in private practice who is considering a move in-house and wants greater exposure to commercial decision-making and project delivery.
