An EL1 ICT Database Administrator is accountable to perform and achieve very complex database management work within an integrated workforce.
They will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and ASD's mission and policy requirements.
Key Duties:
Manage database configuration including installing and upgrading software, and maintaining relevant documentation.
Lead the development and implementation of strategies and the evaluation of business outcomes to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of ICT database solution.
Maintain knowledge, experience and skills of database administration to provide advice to stakeholders and team members.
Build and sustain relationships, liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues across Defence and other organisations.
Motivate and mentor teams, aligning complementary skills and allocating resources in a manner that delivers results.
Evaluate projects to understand critical factors for success and engage in activities to achieve continuous improvement.
Responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function.
Analyse very complex database types and database structures and apply expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
Engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for ASD.
Accountable to set strategy for effective use of database technology taking into account the complex interrelations between hardware and software.

NotesDesirable Qualifications, Experience or Training
Experience or Training in three or more of the following areas is desirable for the ASD EL1 role:
Database servers and supporting domain infrastructure.
High availability / disaster recovery database solutions across multiple datacentres
Experience in supporting Windows Server **** and newer or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 or newer as related to database infrastructure.
Experience in automation and day-to-day administration of database infrastructure using scripting (e.g. administering SQL Server using PowerShell, administering Oracle via scripts or via EMCC).
Significant Database Administrator experience with Oracle, MongoDB, MSSQL or Sybase.
Expertise in database implementation in a Cloud or Exadata setting (eg Opensearch, AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Exadata).
Expertise in Linux or Windows system administration.
Experience as a general developer (eg Java, Python, Android dev, C, C#, React, Powershell).
"Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate - SQL Server" or other vendor equivalent qualification / training / years of experience.
Experience in applying DevOps methodology as pertaining to supporting database infrastructure.
Experience writing technical documentation covering design, operation and fault finding, including standard operating procedures.
Experience managing virtualised server infrastructure using VMWare and other cloud and virtualisation solutions.
Experience supporting Azure and/or AWS cloud hosted database technologies.
Experience in NoSQL database products and other emerging database technologies.
