About the role
We are looking for a practical and detail focused Civil Engineering Technician to join our growing team. This is a hands on role combining office based technical work with regular visits to residential construction sites.
You will support our engineers, project managers and site team with technical documentation, site inspections, measurements, quality checks, construction planning and project records. You will also help ensure that building and associated civil works are completed in line with approved drawings, specifications, budgets and project requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the technical planning and coordination of residential construction, renovation and addition projects
- Review construction drawings, engineering plans, specifications and site information
- Prepare technical sketches, drawing markups, schedules, tables and project documentation
- Take site measurements, levels, quantities, photographs and detailed construction notes
- Assist with planning site preparation, earthworks, drainage, concrete slabs, retaining structures and external works
- Inspect construction activities and identify work that does not meet drawings, specifications or quality requirements
- Coordinate and maintain records of soil, concrete and other construction material testing
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating labour, materials and project costs
- Monitor construction progress and help maintain project programs, inspection records and technical reports
- Assist with quality assurance documents, defects, corrective work, variations and project handovers
- Liaise with engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site employees to resolve technical matters
- Ensure project records are accurate, organised and kept up to date
- Support compliance with relevant building requirements, Australian Standards,
contracts and workplace safety procedures
About you
You will be organised, approachable and comfortable working both in the office and on construction sites. You will have good technical judgment and the confidence to raise issues before they affect project quality, cost or timing.
To be considered, you should have:
- A Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor qualification in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Design, Civil Construction or a closely related field
- Relevant practical experience in civil construction, residential building, site engineering or technical project coordination
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans and technical specifications
- Experience preparing measurements, calculations, quantities, reports and construction records
- Sound knowledge of construction materials, quality control and site inspection processes
- Valuable computer skills, including Microsoft Office and relevant drafting or project documentation software
- Strong communication, problem solving and time management skills
- A current Australian driver licence and the ability to travel to project sites
- A valid White Card, or the ability to obtain one before commencing employment
Experience with AutoCAD, surveying equipment, construction estimating, material testing or quality assurance systems will be highly regarded.
