Are you a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic looking for an opportunity to work on specialised vehicles and equipment?
We are seeking an experienced mechanic to join a specialist Fleet Maintenance team , responsible for keeping fire appliances, heavy vehicles, pumps and associated equipment safe, compliant and ready for operational deployment. This is a unique opportunity to use your mechanical and diagnostic skills in an environment where the work you do directly supports Queensland’s frontline emergency response capability.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of a fleet of specialised fire appliances, heavy vehicles, pumps and associated systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Servicing, repairing and maintaining fire appliances and associated equipment.
- Conducting scheduled maintenance and inspections to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults using electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Servicing and maintaining firefighting, pumping and associated systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Safely operating hand tools, specialised equipment and electronic diagnostic technology.
- Undertaking road testing and fault diagnosis as required.
- Completing electronic job sheets, maintenance records and parts inventory updates.
- Communicating with the Workshop Supervisor regarding the condition of vehicles and equipment.
- Participating in manufacturer and in-house training to maintain and develop technical competencies.
- Working collaboratively within a team while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.
About You:
We are looking for a mechanically skilled professional who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and enjoys working on complex equipment.
You will ideally have:
- A trade qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic or Light Vehicle Mechanic (with heavy diesel experience)
- Demonstrated experience working as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic or in a similar heavy vehicle environment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
- Experience with electrical diagnostics and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- The ability to work confidently with mechanical, hydraulic, pumping and associated systems.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Good computer skills and the ability to accurately complete electronic records and job sheets.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team while also undertaking tasks independently.
Candidates with a light vehicle mechanical trade qualification and strong relevant experience may also be considered, with the expectation that successful applicants will work towards updating their qualifications where required.
Essential / Desirable Requirements:
- Current Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s licence , or the ability to obtain one prior to appointment.
- Relevant heavy vehicle mechanical trade qualification or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience.
- A commitment to complying with workplace health and safety requirements and relevant heavy vehicle legislation.
