APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal Pty Ltd to manage operations of it’s coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point—Australia’s northernmost coal port—located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.

The Operations Improvement Lead is a key leadership position within APO, reporting directly to a member of the Senior Leadership Team and playing a critical role in driving terminal performance, operational improvement, and supply chain efficiency across our coal export operations.

In this role, you will provide leadership across logistics, production, and reliability functions, with a strong focus on the interfaces between Inloading, Stockyard, and Outloading operations. You will help shape operational strategy, lead a high-performing team, and drive continuous improvement to ensure safe, sustainable, and value-driven coal export operations.

This role is pivotal to APO’s continued success and growth as a world-class coal export terminal operator.

What You’ll Do:

- Lead and drive improvements to enhance logistics, production, and coal supply chain interface efficiency, particularly across Inloading, Stockyard, and Outloading operations.
- Provide visible leadership to the Reliability Team, including developing, maintaining, and implementing Training and Development plans aligned with APO’s operational requirements and culture.
- Lead, coach, and manage team performance, ensuring alignment with APO’s operational objectives and reliability targets.
- Support the planning, validation, and execution of the annual equipment outage schedule, ensuring alignment with terminal capacity and coal export demand.
- Design, implement,



and sustain business improvement strategies and processes for Inloading, Stockyard Management, and Outloading.
- Identify and advise on opportunities for effective maintenance and project scheduling, ensuring seamless operations within planning constraints.
- Monitor, review, and enhance the effectiveness of Logistics Management Systems, ensuring they support safe, efficient, and reliable coal export operations.

What We’re Looking For:

- Proven leadership experience managing teams in production, logistics, reliability, or supply chain environments, ideally within a bulk materials handling, terminal, mining, or heavy industrial setting.
- Robust understanding of coal export terminal operations, including logistics interfaces, stockyard management, and equipment maintenance planning.
- Demonstrated capability in developing and leading training and development programs for operational teams
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, drive continuous improvement, and build a positive safety culture.
- Experience in utilisng and optimising Logistics Management Systems and similar tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholders.
- A strong track record in leading change, driving continuous improvement, and promoting a robust safety and risk management culture.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across operational, technical, and leadership teams.
