Job Description
About the Role
We’re looking for a Technical Team Lead to join our Platform Engineering team and take ownership of day-to-day engineering leadership, team development and delivery quality. Reporting directly to the VP of Platform Engineering & MLOps, this is a hands-on leadership role with a solid focus on people leadership, coaching and delivery. You’ll spend around 60% of your time on leadership and team enablement, and around 40% staying close to the code through hands‑on development, code reviews and technical contribution. This role is ideal for someone who leads by example, sets a high bar for execution, and brings strong judgement, calm leadership and a collaborative approach to solving problems.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of engineers, creating an environment of trust, accountability and growth.
- Drive delivery planning, prioritisation and execution across the team.
- Support performance, feedback, development conversations and day‑to‑day people leadership.
- Contribute directly to the codebase through hands‑on development, pull request reviews and technical guidance.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, release safety and delivery discipline.
- Partner with Product, AI and engineering stakeholders to support smooth delivery and strong outcomes.
- Bring practical experience using AI in current development workflows, with familiarity using tools such as Claude Code (we use).
- Act as a role model for communication, ownership, resilience and positive leadership.
- Help the team stay focused, engaged and aligned to priorities.
Desired Skills And Experience
We’d love to hear from you if you bring:
- Strong experience leading engineering teams in a fast‑moving environment.
- A genuine hands‑on engineering mindset and a willingness to stay close to the code.
- Strong technical capability across TypeScript, React, Node.js and AWS. (Must Have)
- Experience contributing to production‑grade web applications, APIs and services.
- Confidence reviewing pull requests, lifting engineering standards and leading by example.
- Strong delivery discipline, including planning, prioritisation, risk management and accountability.
- Practical experience working in cross‑functional environments with Product and technical stakeholders.
- Confidence making sound decisions, giving clear direction and bringing others along with you.
- The traditional leadership traits: integrity, accountability, resilience, empathy, sound judgement and the ability to inspire trust.
What Matters Most
This role is not about owning architecture or acting as the final technical authority for design decisions. It is about leading people well, lifting delivery standards, and staying close enough to the engineering work to guide the team with credibility and confidence.
Culture & Behaviors
- Resilient Leadership: A calm, proactive, and resilient approach to navigating ambiguity, managing competing priorities, and fostering psychological safety.
- Growth Mindset: A curious, continuous learner who actively adapts and improves.
- Collaborative Culture: A commitment to building trust, delivering constructive feedback, sharing knowledge, and celebrating team recognition
