YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE - Clinical Medical Oncology Fellow
Overview:
The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is a globally recognised leader in cancer care and research.
The Medical Oncology Unit at Peter Mac includes world leading experts in multiple tumour types, and is supported by Australia's largest cancer clinical trials unit.
We invite applications to join our team as a Medical Oncology Clinical Fellow, tailored for Advanced Trainees completing or recently completed their Medical Oncology training, offering a unique blend of clinical trial expertise and specialised multidisciplinary cancer care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality care to patients receiving both standard of care treatments and clinical trials, largely in the outpatient setting across a number of different tumour streams
Contribute to clinical trial operations and deliver expert medical oncology care within a multidisciplinary team.
Support our medical oncology registrars and junior medical staff where appropriate, with opportunities for teaching including medical student teaching
Gain hands-on experience in managing patients independently whilst maintaining support and supervision from leading global experts
Address particular gaps in training or specific tumour streams of interest
Work in a multidisciplinary environment renowned for being drivers for cancer care and research
Access to experts and facilities that span the entire breath of oncology research, from clinical, translational, basic and health services research,
with opportunities to transition to a research higher degree
Ideal Candidate:
This position is ideally suited to motivated Advanced Trainees with a passion for learning and providing high quality cancer care and research.

Effective working relationships with medical oncology registrars, haematology registrars and other fellows, resident staff, consultants, nursing and allied health staff.
Effective working relationships with all staff involved in clinical trials.
Readiness to take direction and willingness to learn from supervisors, other members of the team and other colleagues.
Education
Skills
Medical Qualifications registerable by the Medical Board of Victoria
Completed at least two core years of registrar level of training in medical oncology
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
Previous clinical trial experience an advantage

1. Provides high quality patient care using an evidence based, cost effective approach.
Attendance to selected outpatient clinics and clinics in Day Ward
Completes all patient related documentation according to the Centre's needs
Participates in after-hour and weekend cover roster for medical oncology
Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
Participates in departmental research projects and audits
Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
Close liaison with specialist members of the medical oncology Unit
Follows hospital policies and procedures
2. Clinical Research Protocol Development
Enrols and manages patients on clinical trials
Participates in clinical trial management (if appropriate)
Develops clinical research protocols, including preparation, submission to committees, analysis and manuscript preparation (if appropriate)
3. Manuscript preparation
Prepares and submits manuscripts (trial results, case reports, reviews, book chapters etc.)
Participates in laboratory research activities (as applicable)
5. Medical Oncology and Protocol Development
Coordinates and develops/updates medical oncology protocol book/intranet site
