Link-Up (NSW) Aboriginal Corporation is seeking an experienced, compassionate and trauma-informedMale Reunification Counsellor to join our Social and Emotional Wellbeing team.
This is an Aboriginal Identified male position.
Aboriginality and being male are genuine occupational qualifications for this role due to cultural, personal and therapeutics nature of the services provided
Working alongside Aboriginal people who were removed or separated from their families through past government policies and practices, you will provide culturally safe counselling, emotional support and therapeutic guidance throughout the family tracing and reunification journey.
This role provides an opportunity to walk alongside clients through the pre-reunion, reunion and post-reunion stages, supporting healing, connection to family, culture and community, and meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal communities across New South Wales.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Male Reunification Counsellor, you will provide professional counselling and therapeutic support to Aboriginal men and families who have been affected by removal, separation from family and the intergenerational impacts of past government policies and practices.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will support clients throughout the family tracing and reunification process, including preparation before a reunion, support during the reunion and follow-up counselling after the reunion.
You will provide culturally secure and trauma informed counselling, facilitate appropriate referrals, advocate where appropriate and promote client's emotional, cultural and social wellbeing.
This role requires a high level of professionalism,



emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients experiencing complex trauma, grief, loss and family separation.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling and therapeutic support to Aboriginal clients and families.
Support clients affected by removal, separation from family, intergenerational trauma, grief, loss and disrupted family relationships.
Participate in the full reunification process, including pre-reunion preparation, support during reunions and post-reunion counselling.
Travel with clients to community locations throughout New South Wales and interstate where required as part of the reunification process.
Provide counselling relating to transgenerational grief, trauma, identity, family relationships and cultural reconnection.
Work Collaboratively with researchers, case workers and other Link-Up staff to plan and review reunification and healing support.
Maintain regular and appropriate contact with clients throughout their reunification journey.
Facilitates referrals to mental health, family support, alcohol and other drug, legal community and specialist services where required.
Build and maintain respectful relationships with clients, families, community organisations, Stolen Generations groups and services providers.
Participate in case management reviews to support culturally safe, ethical and clinically appropriate practice.
Maintain accurate, confidential and timely counselling notes and client records using organisational systems, including Foxtrot and Monday Board.
Participate in clinical supervision, professional development and continuous quality improvement activities.
Maintain Client confidentiality and comply with all Link-UP policies, procedures, ethical obligations and recordkeeping requirements.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
This is an Aboriginal identified position.
Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification for this role, Authorised under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act ****(NSW)
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:




Relevant qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline.
A minimum Diploma-Level qualification may be considered where supported by significant relevant experience and specialist trauma counselling skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the impact of past government policies on Aboriginal People, families and communities.
An understanding of the Stolen Generations, intergenerational trauma and the emotional and cultural complexities associated with family tracing and reunifications.
Strong counselling, communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to establish and maintain trusted professional therapeutic relationships.
Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Current NSW Driver Licence.
Working with Children Check
Ability to obtain a National Criminal History Check
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
DESIRABLE
Previous experience working in reunification, family tracing, Stolen Generations, healing or Aboriginal community controlled services.
Knowledge of Aboriginal communities, organisations and service networks across New South Wales.
Experience facilitating healing programs, Support groups, community outreach or culturally informed therapeutic activities.
Membership or eligibility for membership with ACA, PACFA, AASW or another recognised professional association.
