Independent Disability Support Worker – DIDO Roster
Cairns to Croydon, Far North QueenslandIndependent Sole Trader – ABN requiredAccommodation available for rent while on roster
Seeking experienced and compassionate sole-trader disability support workers operating as to provide individualised support in the family home to an adult living with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in a remote community in Far North Queensland.
At the heart of this role is supporting the participant remain where they feel most at home surrounded by family and friends, routines and the life they have built.
Your support will help them continue living with dignity, comfort and connection in the place that means the most to them.
Applicants should be comfortable with limited local services, changing weather and road conditions, and the realities of living and working in a small rural community.
This is a drive-in, drive-out opportunity, suitable for experienced support workers travelling from Cairns, the Tablelands, Townsville or other Queensland locations.
The successful applicants will work a structured roster, providing consistent support within the participant's home and community.
Applicants must have:
A minimum Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care or an equivalent qualification
Higher qualifications in disability, nursing, allied health or community services are highly regarded
Previous experience supporting people with complex physical or neurological disabilities
Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
Current Blue Card,
Current First Aid and CPR certificates
Current unrestricted driver's licence
A reliable, registered and appropriately insured vehicle
An active Australian Business Number
Current public liability and professional indemnity insurance
The ability to issue invoices for services provided
The physical capacity to safely undertake personal care and manual-handling duties
Strong written communication and documentation skills
The ability to work independently in a remote environment
The ability to commit to the full roster block
Highly regarded experience
Preference will be given to applicants with experience or training in:
Multiple System Atrophy or other progressive neurological conditions
High-intensity daily personal activities
Dysphagia and mealtime management
Orthostatic hypotension or autonomic dysfunction
Medication support
Delirium or cognitive changes
Manual handling and transfers
Overnight support
Personal qualities
This role will suit someone who is:
Calm and confident during periods of confusion or physical deterioration
Patient with speech and communication difficulties
Respectful of the participant's home, family and routines
Observant and able to recognise subtle changes in presentation
Reliable and committed to completing agreed roster blocks
Comfortable working in a very remote location
Professional while also being warm, approachable and practical
Able to work as part of a small, consistent support team
Willing to assist with everyday household routines associated with the participant's support
Roster and location
Minimum two on two off to be negotiated upon agreement terms
Drive-in, drive-out arrangement
Travel from Cairns, the Tablelands, Townsville or other locations
Accommodation is available for rent during the rostered work period
Workers must be able to travel independently to and from the work location
Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends and active overnight support
Detailed shift times will be discussed with suitable applicants

Independent providers are responsible for maintaining their own:
ABN
Relevant insurances
Taxation and superannuation arrangements
Professional registrations and worker clearances
Vehicle and travel arrangements
Accomodation expenses
Invoicing and business records
The final engagement arrangements, service rates, roster blocks and responsibilities will be documented in an independent provider service agreement.
