The U.S. Embassy in Canberra is seeking an Economic Specialist to join the Economic Section and provide analysis, reporting, and advice on Australian economic issues.
The Economic Specialist reports to the Deputy Economic Counselor and works with a team of American officers and a wide range of U.S. Government officials, including visiting Members of Congress and senior trade negotiators.
The position provides briefings to the Ambassador and DCM and serves as a key resource on specific areas of Australian economic policy.
As an integral member of the Economic Section, the Economic Specialist provides clear analysis and sound judgment to support strategic planning and advance U.S. economic and foreign policy priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Advise on and Advance Strategic Priorities
Develop and Maintain Contacts
Control Officer Duties
Skills and Experience
Applicants must have:
5 years of economics-related work experience
in relevant sectors, including government, industry, or think tank/academia
plus a bachelor's degree
in economics or a related field
Applicants should address the following Selection Criteria:
Knowledge of economic and political environment in Australia.
Strong understanding of how the Australian government operates, including the various departments and the Parliament.
Knowledge of the business environment, including Australia's trade policies and working with industry.
Ability to explain complex economic developments in layman's terms.
