What’sthejob?

The primary role of the Laboratory Assistant is to support the Laboratory Coordinator and the Laboratory team to ensure that they can perform their duties effectively. The Laboratory Assistant works under the line management of the National Laboratory Manager and day‑to‑day supervision of a Laboratory Coordinator. The Laboratory Assistant helps to improve the efficiency of the organization by enhancing the productivity of the Laboratory Coordinator and of the specialist teaching laboratories.

Day-to-day accountabilities:

- ensure stocks of teaching materials are maintained
- class set up for simulations and assessments
- printing of learning materials, as required
- cleaning, refilling, relabelling and restocking of equipment / consumables
- recycling of suitable equipment
- ensuring laboratory spaces are clean and tidy
- other duties as determined on a case-by‑case basis

This is a casual position based at our Surry Hills campus in Sydney, requiring approximately 12–16 hours across 2–3 shifts per week.



We are seeking a flexible team member with availability to work afternoon shifts from 2:00 pm onwards, as these hours form a core part of the roster. Additional shifts may also be available based on operational requirements.

As this role involves manual handling tasks, the recruitment process will include a functional capability assessment for the preferred candidate.

- Good attention to detail
- Effective time-management skills
- Good communicationand interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously and with the team
