Litigation Practice Group Leader (Fully Remote)

Are you a senior litigator ready to lead, mentor, and shape the strategic direction of a high-performing Litigation practice group?

Smith's Lawyers is seeking an experienced Litigation Practice Group Leader to take carriage of our most complex and catastrophic personal injury matters, lead our litigation team, and drive strategic outcomes across the practice group. This is a genuine leadership role for a senior litigator who thrives on complex casework, forensic evidence analysis, and trial advocacy.

About the Role

This is a senior leadership role within our Litigation practice group, combining hands-on carriage of complex and catastrophic personal injury matters with strategic oversight, mentoring, and practice group leadership.

You will be trusted to drive strategic direction, resolve high-risk and previously "stalled" matters, and support your team of lawyers and paralegals in achieving strong client outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Litigation practice group, setting direction and driving performance across the team

Taking personal carriage of a select caseload of complex, catastrophic, personal injury matters, including medical negligence, workers' compensation, public liability and motor vehicle

Conducting forensic evidentiary analysis to identify causal links and evidentiary gaps,



and developing strategies to reframe complex or high-risk claims

Designing and executing strategic case plans to progress matters efficiently toward negotiation, mediation, or trial

Preparing matters for trial and mediation, including briefing counsel, settling witness statements, and overseeing trial bundles and evidence

Quantifying and negotiating complex, high-value claims, and leading settlement negotiations on behalf of the firm

Liaising with medical experts, counsel, statutory bodies, and other stakeholders on complex and catastrophic matters

Mentoring, training, and supervising lawyers and paralegals within the practice group, and overseeing file quality and compliance standards

Identifying and implementing process improvements to reduce delays and administrative "looping" across the practice group

Partnering with the Managing Principal and senior leadership on practice group strategy, growth, and resourcing

About You

You are a senior litigator with deep technical expertise, sound strategic judgement, and a genuine passion for resolving complex and high-value personal injury claims. You bring the leadership skills and credibility to guide, mentor, and grow a high-performing practice group.

You will bring:

10+ years' experience as a Litigation Lawyer, with substantial experience across medical negligence,



workers' compensation, public liability, motor vehicle, and/or TPD claims in Queensland

Current Queensland Practicing Certificate (or eligibility to hold one)

A demonstrated track record of resolving complex, high-value, or previously "unwinnable" claims through forensic medical evidence analysis and strategic case planning

Solid trial and mediation preparation experience, including briefing counsel and managing matters through to hearing

Proven leadership and mentoring skills

Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills, including with medical experts, counsel, and statutory bodies

The ability to work autonomously while providing clear strategic direction and support to others

High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in file management, evidence handling, and reporting

Admission to the Supreme Court of Queensland (essential)
