Remuneration: $150,000–$250,000, with a significant performance-based component linked to cashflow delivered to the business
Prestige Plants is seeking a highly driven, commercially minded and genuinely hands‑on Head of Commercial & Sales to grow revenue, manage major customer projects and convert sales opportunities into profitable, collected cashflow.
This is not a traditional sales management role, a strategy‑only position or a caretaker role. We need someone who is comfortable getting into the detail, working directly with customers, preparing and reviewing quotations, managing project information, following up orders and payments, solving delivery issues and using technology to keep every opportunity moving forward.
You will lead and support the sales team, but you will also personally manage major accounts and projects from initial enquiry and quotation through to delivery, invoicing and payment.
Success in this role will not be measured by activity, promises or revenue booked on paper. It will be measured by profitable projects successfully delivered, strong customer relationships and cashflow received by the business. A significant component of your remuneration will therefore be linked to the commercial and cashflow outcomes you deliver.
Established in 1999, Prestige Plants is a trusted wholesale supplier of premium trees and plants to landscapers, developers, civil contractors and government projects across Victoria and New South Wales. With more than 220 acres of nursery operations across Kinglake, Victoria, and Alstonville, Current South Wales, and over 5,000 plant lines, we are one of Australia’s largest and most diverse wholesale nurseries.
The Role
You will be responsible for Prestige Plants’ commercial performance, sales growth, customer relationships and the successful management of major customer projects.
This role is based in Kinglake, Victoria.
Your priorities will include:
Driving profitable revenue growth across existing and new customer markets.
Converting sales opportunities into completed projects, invoices and collected cash.
Personally managing major project opportunities from initial enquiry, estimating and quotation through to delivery, invoicing and payment.
Developing trusted relationships with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Managers, Landscape Contractors, developers, civil contractors and government customers.
Maintaining accurate and detailed customer, quotation, order and project information within the company’s systems.
Responding quickly to enquiries, preparing professional proposals and following up opportunities with discipline and persistence.
Working closely with customers, nursery production, logistics and operations to ensure large plant orders are delivered accurately, on time and to specification.
Managing project timelines, customer expectations, changes, risks and delivery issues before they affect the customer or the commercial outcome.
Leading, supporting and holding the sales team accountable while maintaining a strong customer‑first and results‑focused culture.
Identifying new business opportunities and expanding relationships with existing customers.
Developing pricing strategies and commercial proposals that deliver appropriate margins and sustainable growth.
Monitoring the sales pipeline, project progress, invoicing, debtors, cash collection and other commercial KPIs.
Using data, reporting and market information to improve forecasting, decision‑making and sales performance.
Continuously improving sales, customer service and project management processes.
This is a highly hands‑on position. You will be expected to work at pace, manage a substantial volume of information and remain personally involved in customer communication, project coordination, commercial problem‑solving and cash collection.
About You
You are an energetic and commercially focused leader who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and seeing projects through to completion.
You understand that winning an order is only the beginning. A successful sale means ensuring the order is accurate, the project is well managed, the customer is kept informed, the product is delivered as promised, the invoice is issued promptly and payment is received.
You are not looking for a role where you simply delegate tasks or manage from a distance. You are willing to roll up your sleeves, work directly in the systems, communicate with customers and internal teams, and personally drive important matters to completion.
You will bring:
A proven track record of growing profitable sales and developing long‑term customer relationships.
Outstanding customer management skills, including the ability to build trust, manage expectations, communicate proactively and resolve problems professionally.
Strong project management and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex orders, deadlines, stakeholders and dependencies.
Experience working with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Managers and commercial stakeholders within construction, civil, landscaping or related project‑based industries.
A solid understanding of how major construction and landscaping projects operate and the importance of accurate, on‑time delivery.
Strong commercial acumen, including pricing, margins, negotiation, forecasting, invoicing, debtor management and cashflow.
Experience leading and mentoring sales teams while remaining actively involved with customers and major opportunities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional organisation, attention to detail and follow‑through.
A practical and highly hands‑on working style.
The ability to move comfortably between business development, customer service, project coordination, data analysis and commercial leadership.
The confidence and resilience to hold customers and internal stakeholders accountable for agreed actions and deadlines.
IT and Computer Skills
Strong technology and computer skills are essential for this role.
You must be comfortable spending a significant part of your day working within business systems and managing detailed commercial information. You will need:
Strong general computer literacy and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Fast and accurate typing skills.
High proficiency with email, spreadsheets, documents,
customer databases and sales or ERP systems.
The ability to prepare quotations, proposals, reports and customer communications efficiently and professionally.
Strong spreadsheet and data‑management skills.
The discipline to maintain accurate customer records, notes, tasks, project details and follow‑up dates.
The ability to use technology to manage a large volume of enquiries, quotations, projects and customer communication without losing detail.
Confidence interpreting sales, margin, pipeline, project, debtor and cashflow reports.
Applicants who are uncomfortable working extensively with computers, entering and reviewing detailed information, or personally managing administrative follow‑through will not be suited to this position.
Experience in horticulture, landscaping, construction materials, civil infrastructure, building products or a related industry will be highly regarded. However, your ability to manage project‑based sales, build trusted customer relationships, use technology effectively and deliver profitable cashflow is what matters most.
Remuneration and Performance
The remuneration package for this role is expected to be between $150,000 and $250,000 , depending on experience and performance.
This package will include a meaningful performance‑based component. Your earning potential will be directly influenced by the profitable sales, successful project delivery and collected cashflow you generate for Prestige Plants.
This structure will suit a commercially ambitious person who wants to be rewarded for measurable business outcomes and is confident in their ability to deliver them.
Candidates must have unrestricted Australian working rights for this position.
