Facilities & Cleaning Assistant

Balwyn High School is seeking a reliable, proactive and hands-on Facilities & Cleaning Assistant to join our Facilities Team.

This is a varied role that combines cleaning, facilities support and operational assistance to help ensure our school remains clean, safe, welcoming and well-presented for more than 2,500 students, staff and visitors each day.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will play an important role in the day-to-day operations of one of Victoria's leading government secondary schools.

Role

The Facilities & Cleaning Assistant supports the effective operation, presentation, cleanliness and safety of Balwyn High School. The role provides cleaning services, assists with school opening and closing procedures, supports the Facilities Team with operational tasks, and contributes to the maintenance of a clean, safe and welcoming workplace for students, staff and visitors.

The position reports to the Facilities Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning and Presentation

- Undertake routine and reactive cleaning duties across the school.
- Monitor, clean and restock student and staff toilets throughout the day.
- Respond to spills, vandalism and other cleaning issues as required.
- Collect and dispose of rubbish and recycling.
- Maintain the presentation of internal and external areas.
- Report maintenance, cleaning or safety concerns to the Facilities Manager.

Facilities Support

- Assist with the daily opening and securing of school buildings, gates and facilities.
- Support room setups, pack downs and furniture relocations.
- Assist with deliveries, stock movement and storage management.
- Support school events, functions, examinations and community use activities.




- Undertake minor non-trade maintenance tasks as directed.
- Assist with grounds and presentation works as required.

Safety and Compliance

- Follow safe work procedures and use equipment safely.
- Maintain appropriate records where required.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with training and manufacturer requirements.
- Report hazards, incidents and near misses promptly.
- Contribute to a secure and healthy workplace.

Teamwork and Customer Service

- Work collaboratively with the Facilities Team and other school staff.
- Provide courteous and professional service to students, staff, contractors and visitors.
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing operational priorities.

Knowledge and Skills

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Ability to undertake cleaning and physical operational duties.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong reliability, punctuality and attendance.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow procedures and directions.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming setting.
- Basic computer skills sufficient to access email and complete simple administrative tasks.

Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated experience undertaking cleaning, facilities, grounds, maintenance or operational support duties in a school or similar environment.
- Ability to work independently,



manage time effectively and respond to changing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality and willingness to take initiative in identifying and resolving operational issues.
- Commitment to workplace safety and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer service.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, contractors and visitors.

Conditions

- Hours of work will generally be as listed below, however flexibility may be required to support school operations:
- Monday to Friday 6:30 am - 2:30 pm
- The successful applicant must hold, or be willing to obtain, a current Working with Children Check.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with all Child Safe Standards and school policies.
