The Company
Our client is an established, values-led organisation with a long and proud history and a community that continues to grow. With a sizeable team and revenue in the tens of millions, it is governed by an engaged board and performs like a high performing commercial business. The organisation itself is expanding, with plans already in place for its next stage of growth, and the finance office sits right at the centre of the funding, planning and project work that will make it happen.
Close-knit and long-tenured team, reporting directly to said CFO and sits above the day-to-day transactional AP, AR and payroll processing, which the rest of the team already has covered, so your time stays focused on the numbers that actually move the needle. People join this team and stay, which tells you everything you need to know before you have even walked through the door.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, you will take ownership of the accounting engine that keeps this organisation running, from month end through to the year end audit, with your own office and a transparent runway to grow well beyond this seat. That is the standard here, and it is the prospect in front of you.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Prepare monthly financial statements and internal reporting, ensuring all balance sheet accounts reconcile monthly
- Prepare end of year financial accounts and audit documentation, and run the interim and year end audit with the external auditor
- Oversee and authorise the fortnightly payroll, supporting the Payroll Officer, and advise on awards, classifications and annualised salaries,
with templates already in place
- Manage bank reconciliations, fund transfers, cash flow management and a weekly cash flow forecast
- Run the fortnightly rhythm across accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll, and act as the finance go-to for banking relationships and the card facility
- Support around 20 department budgets, building, distributing and consolidating them with department heads using an in-house budgeting and forecasting model
- Monitor capital project expenditure, maintain the asset register and depreciation schedule, and report project positions to the CFO
- Assist the CFO with the annual budget, six-monthly board forecasts, ten year projections and capital grant applications and acquittals
- Manage regulatory and compliance reporting obligations, including monthly BAS and GST and other statutory returns
About You You are a steady, personable accountant who likes being the person others come to. You are as comfortable walking a head of department through their budget as you are closing the ledger, and you bring a calm, positive presence to a team that values exactly that. You may be in a corporate seat wondering whether the work can mean something more, or already in the sector and ready for a bigger seat.
Either way, you want somewhere you can settle in, be trusted and build toward something larger.
Skills & Experience To be effective in this role, you will likely bring:
- A Business or Commerce degree, with CPA or CA qualification preferred or in progress
- At least five years' experience across financial accounting, month end and audit preparation
- Confident owning month end from start to finish, with exposure to payroll a bonus
- A natural at building relationships, someone who enjoys partnering with different stakeholders
- The right attitude and appetite for growth matter just as much as the technical box ticking
What's On Offer
- A pathway where your work results in key decision making processes
- Work-life balance that is real: flexible starting time, a 3:30 finish on Fridays, gifted leave that takes you to effectively five weeks, and ability to work-from-home
- Your own office within a stable, welcoming team where tenure is measured in years
- Breadth most organisations split across three roles: month end, audit, payroll, budgets, capital projects and compliance
- A salary shaped around your experience, let's talk
