Alcohol and Other Drugs Support Worker

Full-time | 38 hours per week

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Prospect Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the role The AOD Support Worker provides culturally safe, client-focused support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by alcohol and other drugs (AOD). Working alongside individuals and families, you will help address substance use issues, promote health and wellbeing, and support recovery pathways.

The role requires a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, history and social issues to ensure services are culturally appropriate, respectful and effective.

About You To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities in a health or social service setting, particularly in AOD-related services.
- Strong understanding of the social, cultural and historical factors affecting Aboriginal people and communities.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal people and families, recognising their values, cultural practices and needs.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in case management and community-based service delivery.




- Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with integrity.
