Deep End Services
South Yarra
Company description
Deep End Services is a boutique economic and property consultancy based in South Yarra, Melbourne, working with clients across Australia, New Zealand and beyond.
We assess demand for location-based facilities and advise clients across retail, commercial, industrial, residential, short-term accommodation, medical, entertainment, fuel and related sectors.
Our work combines research, data analysis, GIS mapping, fieldwork, industry knowledge and carefully written reports. We are a small team, so analysts are exposed to a wide range of project types and quickly learn how evidence is converted into practical consulting advice.
Role description
We are seeking an early-career analyst to join our consulting team. The role would suit a recent graduate, or someone with one to two years of experience in a property, economics, analytics, consulting or research role.
You do not need to have carried out this exact type of work before. We are looking for someone with strong analytical instincts, clear writing, attention to detail and genuine interest in property markets, urban development and location-based decision-making.
What you will work on
- Collecting, checking and analysing demographic, property, business, planning and spatial data.
- Preparing trade area profiles, competitor audits, supply assessments and site context reviews.
- Assisting with maps, tables, charts and other project outputs.
- Contributing to research for economic impact assessments, market assessments, sales forecasting, network planning and site selection projects.
- Undertaking site inspections and learning how to observe and record the factors that influence commercial performance.
- Drafting clear report sections and learning how to turn analysis into practical written advice.
- Working with senior team members to develop your technical, commercial and consulting skills.
What we are looking for
- A degree, or near-completed degree, in economics, commerce, property, urban planning, geography, statistics, data analytics, business or a related field.
- Strong spreadsheet skills and confidence working with data. Experience with Excel is important, and exposure to Power BI, SQL, Python, R or similar tools would be an advantage.
- Interest in property markets, urban development, planning, commercial decision-making and how places function.
- Clear written communication, with an ability to explain findings simply and accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to check work carefully.
- Familiarity in using AI to undertake research tasks.
- Curiosity, initiative and comfort working in a small team where people contribute across multiple tasks.
- GIS, mapping or spatial analysis experience would be highly regarded, such as MapInfo, QGIS, ArcGIS or university-level spatial analysis.
Why this role may appeal
- You will receive close training from experienced consultants rather than being placed into a large intake program.
- You will work on real client projects from an early stage, with exposure to data, maps, fieldwork, reports and client advice.
- You will build transferable skills in property analysis, GIS, consulting research, model-building and qualified writing.
- You will join a specialist consultancy where careful analysis and transparent reports matter.
