Aureus Financial

Caringbah

You are probably the person your firm comes to when the matter is genuinely hard. The Division 7A mess that has been sitting there four years. The client selling in eighteen months with the factory inside the trading company. The unpaid present entitlements papered on a view the High Court has since overturned. The ruling nobody wants to draft.

You do that work. Then you hand it up, and somebody else signs it and has the conversation with the client.

This role is the other way around. You are the sign-off.

Aureus Accounting is scaling from seven seats to fourteen across this financial year, with a delivery team across three countries. We are appointing an Associate Director, Tax and Technical to be the firm's primary licence holder and supervising tax agent, to own quality assurance across every seat, and to personally take the complex work.

You can do all of it from wherever you live. Fully remote, permanently, anywhere in Australia. Not hybrid, not remote until we change our minds. Our team already works across several states and two countries, so remote is how we operate rather than a concession we are making.

What you will own

- The licence and the quality line. You are the named supervising tax agent. You design the review framework, decide what standard the work is held to, and hold the last signature before anything reaches a client. Including how we review work prepared offshore, which most firms have not properly solved.

- The complex work. Restructures. Division 7A and unpaid present entitlement remediation. Capital gains tax concessions on business sales. Trust deeds and resolutions. Research and development claims where they are real. Private rulings, objections and the negotiations that follow. If it is hard, it is yours, and you draft it rather than delegating it.

- The technical ceiling of the team.

You review above other people's level, you teach the rule rather than fixing the number, and you build the technical position library so the same question is never researched twice.

What success looks like in the first 90 days

- You are the named supervising agent with the framework documented and running, not planned.
- Advisory work is going out with your review behind it and nothing is being reversed.

- Three accountants are producing better work because of how you review them.

Who you are

- You would rather own the quality line in a firm that is building than be the fourth senior manager in one that is finished.

- You read the case, not the summary of the case.
- You can tell a business owner their structure is wrong and what fixing it costs, clearly, without softening it into uselessness or hiding behind the legislation.
- You know when the technically optimal answer is the commercially wrong one, and you say so.

- You build capability in the people around you rather than quietly becoming irreplaceable.
- You work well without anyone watching, and you raise problems early instead of hoping.

What you need to bring

- Current registration as a tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board, with no conditions restricting supervision or scope.
- CA, CPA, IPA or equivalent.
- At least 10 years in Australian public practice, with substantial time at manager level or above.

- Real depth in Division 7A, capital gains tax small business concessions,

trusts and restructuring. Depth, not exposure.
- Experience holding review or sign-off over other people's work, including work prepared offshore.

Valued and used, not essential: research and development tax offset work, business valuations, self managed superannuation fund compliance, and virtual chief financial officer engagements.

What we offer

- $180,000 to $240,000 package including superannuation, based on experience.
- Fully remote, anywhere in Australia, permanently. Flexible hours around client and lodgement commitments, with core overlap hours agreed up front so nobody is guessing.

- Tax agent registration, professional membership, continuing career development and technical subscriptions covered, with a named annual budget rather than a case-by-case approval.
- A written path to Client Director and partner with the criteria set out before you start.
- A group covering accounting, wealth advice, business education and marketing, so when your client needs something outside tax there is someone in the building who does it, and you are never the person having to say no.

Why Aureus Our clients are business owners and high net worth families who came to us to find out what to do next, not to have a return lodged. That means the technical work here ends in a decision rather than a lodgement receipt, and the person who did the technical work is in the room when the decision gets made.

How to apply

Send your CV, your Tax Practitioners Board registration number, and a short note on the most technically difficult client matter you have handled in the last two years: what the issue was, what you recommended, and what happened. A few paragraphs is plenty. We read those notes properly and they matter more than the cover letter.
