Help Shape the Future of Specialist Vehicle Design

MacroVan is a Western Australian specialist vehicle manufacturer designing and delivering innovative mobile workplace, welfare and accommodation solutions. As our product range continues to grow, we are seeking an Automotive Design & Product Development Engineer to lead the development of new vehicle platforms, improve existing products and help bring our next generation of specialist vehicle solutions to market.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and supported by an experienced Senior Automotive Engineering Consultant, this role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of engineering projects while receiving valuable mentorship and industry exposure.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the design, development and continuous improvement of MacroVan's vehicle conversion products, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, practical to manufacture and commercially viable.

A key focus will be supporting the development of our new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 conversion platform, while also improving existing Ford Transit-based products and helping establish robust engineering systems and documentation.

Working closely with production teams, suppliers, manufacturing partners and external engineering specialists, you'll play an integral role in transforming ideas into high-quality finished vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop recent vehicle concepts, layouts and conversion systems.
- Prepare CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Support the development of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 conversion program.
- Develop and maintain bills of materials, specifications and engineering records.
- Assess vehicle payload,

axle loading and design suitability.
- Provide engineering support to workshop personnel and manufacturing partners.
- Coordinate prototype development, testing and product validation activities.
- Support engineering change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Investigate technical issues, warranty matters and product improvements.
- Collaborate with suppliers and contractors to deliver practical engineering solutions.

What You'll Bring

Essential

- Degree qualification in Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related Engineering discipline.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design and engineering principles.
- Experience using 3D CAD software and producing technical drawings.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage engineering tasks independently and see projects through to completion.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- Full Australian working rights.

Desirable

- Experience in automotive engineering, vehicle modifications or low-volume manufacturing.
- Experience with commercial vehicles, motorhomes, emergency-service vehicles or specialist fleet conversions.
- Exposure to Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar software.
- Knowledge of electrical, battery, solar or auxiliary vehicle systems.
- Experience with prototype development, testing and design validation.

- Understanding of vehicle compliance, weight distribution and payload assessments.
- Practical workshop, fabrication or manufacturing experience.

Who We're Looking For

This role would suit an engineer who enjoys solving practical problems and working closely with real-world products rather than remaining behind a desk. You will be curious, hands-on and comfortable balancing engineering excellence with commercial outcomes.

You'll thrive if you are:

- Detail-oriented and organised.
- Passionate about product development and innovation.
- Comfortable working in workshops and around vehicle builds.
- Confident communicating with tradespeople, suppliers and senior stakeholders.
- Eager to learn and develop your automotive engineering expertise.
- Interested in seeing your designs become finished products.

Why Join MacroVan?

- Work on unique and innovative specialist vehicle projects.
- Play a key role in developing new product platforms.
- Receive mentoring from an experienced automotive engineering consultant.
- Gain exposure to the complete product development lifecycle.
- Join a growing Australian business where your ideas and contributions will have real impact.
- Enjoy a varied role combining design, development, testing and manufacturing support.
