As a Biomedical Engineering Intern, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to real-world medical device ecosystems, hospital workflows, and regulatory environments shaping modern healthcare delivery.
Role & Responsibilities
- Assist in the evaluation, calibration, and maintenance of clinical equipment across partner healthcare facilities.
- Support biomedical engineers in troubleshooting device malfunctions and documenting technical interventions.
- Participate in inventory audits and asset tracking of critical medical devices using CMMS software.
- Conduct basic performance testing and safety checks on diagnostic and therapeutic equipment under supervision.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to understand operational needs and translate them into technical requirements.
- Contribute to reporting and compliance documentation aligned with Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) standards.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must-Have
- Biomedical Engineering coursework or equivalent (current student or recent graduate)
- Familiarity with medical devices (e.g., ECG, ventilators, infusion pumps)
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and CMMS platforms (e.g., Maximo, TMS)
- Understanding of Australian healthcare compliance standards (TGA, ISO 13485)
- Ability to read technical schematics and service manuals
- Solid attention to detail and documentation skills
- Preferred
- Internship or lab experience in a hospital or clinical engineering setting
- Exposure to biomedical instrumentation or biosensors
- Knowledge of basic electrical safety testing (e.g., PAT testing)
