About MAKEIT
MAKEIT is a young multi-trade company backed by a well-established team with over 30 years of collective industry experience. We deliver roofing, cladding, plumbing, and electrical services across commercial, residential, industrial, and rectification projects throughout Victoria and into NSW border towns. We're not your standard roofing crew. Our work includes coordinated multi-trade projects with genuine complexity — insulated panel systems, architectural cladding, heritage restoration, and performance-based solutions designed and supported by our in-house engineering team. We're also the official recommended installer for Stratco's Architectural Solutions Division across Victoria.
We invest in our own equipment — EWPs, commercial roof skates, and guardrail systems are all in-house, so our crews have what they need on every job without delays.
Our warehouse and offices are at 50 Buchanan Road, Brooklyn. Melbourne is our central hub, with the majority of our work within 50km of the CBD — though we service all of Victoria and parts of NSW where projects require it.
The Role
We're looking for a part-time bookkeeper who already knows Simpro — not someone who's seen it in a demo, but someone who can sit down in their first week and start entering supplier invoices against jobs without needing to be shown where anything lives. We're project management-led, which means every dollar gets costed to a job. That only works if what goes into Simpro is right and what comes out into Xero actually reconciles. This role owns that end to end, along with payroll, the asset register, and month-end. It's a real bookkeeping job with a full scope — not data entry with a title on it.
What You'll Do
- Enter and code supplier invoices in Simpro against the correct job, cost centre and contractor
- Manage the Simpro to Xero export and reconcile so the two systems genuinely agree
- Run fortnightly payroll for field and office staff — timesheets, allowances, superannuation, leave and TIL balances, STP reporting
- Maintain loan, chattel mortgage and hire purchase accounts, including principal and interest splits
- Keep the fixed asset register current and run depreciation schedules
- Bank, credit card and supplier statement reconciliations, plus the accounts payable run
- Prepare BAS and IAS figures and the month-end pack for our external accountant
- Flag costing and margin issues to the project managers who can act on them
What You Need
- Simpro experience — specifically the supplier invoice workflow and the Xero sync
- Strong Xero skills across payroll, reconciliations and journals
- Award-based payroll experience — allowances, multiple classifications, the lot
- Bookkeeping to trial balance and past it — depreciation, loan account splits, end-of-month journals
- Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent hands-on experience
- Reliable transport to Brooklyn (on-site parking available)
- Valid work visa or Australian citizenship/permanent residency required
Good to Have (Not Essential)
- Registered BAS agent
- Experience in construction, trades or another job-costing business
- Familiarity with construction awards (MA000020, MA000036)
- Payroll tax and WorkCover remuneration declaration experience
What We Offer
- Above-award hourly rates — $47.04–$51.52/hr including super, depending on experience and level
- Clear progression pathway — a structured six-level Accounts & Finance ladder from Accounts Assistant through to Finance Manager, with written criteria so you know exactly what moving up looks like
- Time in Lieu — additional hours are banked, not lost
- Genuine part time flexibility — we're open to any arrangement which days and how many. School hours work. So does a compressed week
- Hybrid working — the Simpro and payroll work needs you in the office some of the time, but not all of it
- Quality tools and technology — Simpro, Xero, drone fleet, thermal imaging, satellite planning and project tracking software. The systems are already in place
- Varied, interesting work — heritage restorations, new commercial builds, insulated panel, rectification. You won't be reconciling the same three suppliers every month
- Ownership — this is the whole finance function, not a slice of it
About the Team
You'd be part of a small office team in Brooklyn — project managers, estimators and admin, all in the same room. It's the kind of setup where you'll know the crews by name rather than by employee number, and where the person you need to chase about a missing docket is usually a few metres away or a phone call from a job site. That matters more than it sounds for this role. Payroll here isn't an abstract data set — it's real people on real sites, with allowances and TIL balances that need to be right, because they'll notice if they're not. Same with job costing. When you flag that a job's supplier invoices don't line up with what was quoted, it goes straight to the project manager running it, and something actually happens.
Our directors and senior team have run roofing businesses, led major commercial projects, and built the systems we use every day.
We started MAKEIT because we saw a smarter, more transparent way to deliver trade work — and that applies to how we treat our own people. It's why we've published a classification structure with real progression criteria. You won't be a number here. Communication is direct, and if you do good work, it gets noticed. We're building the team now — the people who come on board early will grow with the business.
