Cubic Defence Australia is seeking an experienced Business Operations Support Lead to coordinate critical business support functions across Australia and the broader region. This senior position plays a key role in supporting effective governance, regulatory and contractual compliance, risk management and continual improvement across a diverse operational environment.
Working collaboratively with the Regional Quality and HSE Manager, General Management and functional leaders, the role supports Australian Defence and corporate security, workplace health and safety, compliance, quality management systems, facilities, fleet, logistics governance, Dangerous Goods and Petroleum Oils and Lubricants requirements. The position also supports alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
About the Role
As Business Operations Support Lead, you will provide senior coordination and practical support across business operations, WHS, compliance, governance, integrated management systems, Defence and corporate security, facilities management, and vehicle and fleet governance. You will help ensure Cubic Defence Australia continues to meet its legislative, Defence, contractual and internal policy obligations while promoting a culture of safety, security, quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate general management meetings, reporting, reviews, delegations, support visits, CAPEX planning and management of critical business assets.
- Support the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of WHS frameworks, procedures, reporting arrangements and safety culture initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, contractual requirements, internal delegations and company policies.
- Coordinate risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, return-to-work activities and WHS performance reporting.
- Maintain and improve compliance, governance and Integrated Management System frameworks, including obligations registers, risk registers, assurance schedules and controlled documentation.
- Support alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements, including internal audits, external certification activities, management reviews and assurance reporting.
- Maintain Defence and corporate security governance frameworks, plans, registers, reporting arrangements and compliance with applicable Defence and Australian Government security requirements.
- Coordinate personnel, physical, information, cyber and operational security requirements, including clearances, access approvals, briefings, incidents, investigations and corrective actions.
- Oversee facilities management activities, including access, maintenance, utilities, cleaning, essential services, emergency response, contractor coordination and workplace compliance.
- Manage vehicle and fleet governance, including procurement, allocation, registration, insurance, servicing, maintenance, disposal, driver compliance, incidents, fuel use and fleet reporting.
- Engage with Defence, government authorities, customers, auditors, landlords, contractors, suppliers and service providers to support effective operational outcomes.
About You
You are a senior, trusted and solutions-focused professional with the judgement, resilience and stakeholder-management capability to operate effectively in a regulated Defence workplace.
You bring a strong commitment to safety, security, quality, compliance and practical business outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in WHS, quality, risk and compliance, security, facilities, business management or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
- Formal WHS qualifications or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- At least 10 years’ military experience, preferably at senior officer level, or equivalent senior leadership experience in Defence, government or another highly regulated setting.
- Extensive experience across WHS, compliance, quality, security, facilities and fleet-management functions.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and improving integrated management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Experience coordinating audits, management reviews, non-conformances, corrective actions, assurance activities and continual improvement initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, hazard and risk management, incident investigation and consultation requirements.
- Sound understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk, contractual obligations and Defence security requirements.
- Experience managing personnel, physical, information and operational security requirements.
- Demonstrated capability in facilities management, emergency management, contractor performance and workplace compliance.
- Experience managing corporate vehicle fleets, driver compliance, roadworthiness, incidents and operating costs.
- Strong financial-management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and execution of delegations.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive reports, policies, procedures, risk assessments and briefings.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and experience using compliance, audit, risk,
asset-management or enterprise systems. SAP experience is highly desirable.
- A current unrestricted driver licence.

Security and Employment Requirements
Appointment and ongoing employment are subject to the successful candidate meeting security, probity and employment requirements, including:
- Australian citizenship where required for an Australian Government security clearance.
- The ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
- A satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- Successful completion of required identity, probity, security and pre-employment screening.
- Compliance with company, customer, Defence and Australian Government security requirements.
- Ongoing compliance with personnel-security reporting and suitability obligations.
- Eligibility to access Defence and other controlled facilities.
- A current unrestricted driver licence and continued eligibility to operate company vehicles.
- Maintenance of all qualifications, clearances, licences and competencies required for the position.
- Capacity to travel and work extended hours when reasonably required.
