About the Restaurant
Situated at the gateway to the King Valley, a renowned tourist destination recognised for its outstanding diversity around food and wine experiences, exciting events calendar, hosting approximately 100,000 visitors per year, with the Brown Brothers Restaurant and Cellar Door being central to our offer.
Most recently awarded a Chef Hat in the 2026 The Age Positive Food Guide Awards, our restaurant has proudly retained this recognition for four consecutive years (2023-2026). Our menu celebrates the region's rich food culture,
featuring organic produce grown in our on-site commercial kitchen garden and a commitment to seasonal, produce-driven dining.
About the Role
Due to continued growth and exciting new hospitality offerings, we currently have multiple Casual Chef opportunities available to join our award-winning team in Milawa.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated and creative Chef to gain exposure to a wide variety of uncommon and inspirational cooking techniques including our fermentation program around miso and sourdough, the culinary art of charcuterie, as well as cheese making.
Working closely with Executive Chef and the broader kitchen team, this role is responsible for delivering best in class dining and food experiences to all visitors to the Milawa site. You will be hands-on in food preparation and the presentation of meals, as well as maintaining, harvesting, and processing produce from the garden.
In addition, this is an exciting time to join the team as we embark on the next chapter of the Brown Brothers Milawa visitor experience. With redevelopment works underway across our Cellar Door and restaurant precinct, The Arbour will become a vibrant year-round outdoor dining destination, offering guests a unique space for casual dining, wine experiences, private functions and events. As a Chef, you'll have the chance to contribute to this exciting new offering while continuing to deliver exceptional food experiences across our broader hospitality operations.
Skills and Experiences:
About You
As a self-motivated chef, you will be qualified, inquisitive and have a passion for pushing the culinary boundaries and exploring innovative cooking techniques. An outgoing personality, with a positive attitude will mean an easy transition into the team.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Qualified cook with experience
- Ability to work unsupervised and maintain operating procedures
- Ability to maintain consistency in food standards and presentation at all times
- Outgoing personality and general interest in the matching of wine and food
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
- Day, evening and weekend work is an expectation
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, interpersonal and negotiation
- Current Driver's licence
- Broad understanding of different wine styles, as well as experience with wine and food matching would be advantageous
