About the role

Mensa Dining Room and Bar is seeking an experienced and creative Chef to join our talented kitchen team on a full-time basis. Based in Kent Town, SA 5067, this is an exciting prospect to lead and contribute to our culinary operations, delivering high-quality dining experiences to our guests. As Chef, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our reputation for excellence whilst driving innovation in our menu offerings and kitchen standards.

What you'll be doing

- Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to our established recipes, menus and presentation standards
- Ensuring all dishes meet our quality and consistency requirements before service
- Maintaining organisation, cleanliness and efficiency
- Assisting in the testing new menu items and seasonal specials that align with our culinary vision
- Assisting with training, mentoring and supervising kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment
- Maintaining strict adherence to food safety, hygiene and health regulations at all times
- Maintaining food costs and inventory whilst minimising waste
- Collaborating with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service and guest satisfaction
- Monitoring and ordering quality ingredients and supplies from approved vendors

What we're looking for

- Formal culinary qualification or equivalent hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment
- Proven experience working as a Chef or Senior Cook in a high-volume food service establishment
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and cuisine styles relevant to contemporary dining
- Proficiency in kitchen safety standards, food hygiene certification and understanding of health regulations
- Excellent organisational and time management skills,



with the ability to work under pressure during service periods
- Leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate kitchen staff effectively
- Creative flair and passion for developing innovative dishes and menu concepts
- Ability to maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency in food quality and presentation
- Experience with food costing, budgeting and inventory management is highly desirable
