Hatchery job duties

We're looking for Hatchery Assistants to join the team! The role may involve assisting in receiving and preparing eggs for incubation, incubating eggs, grading, vaccinating, preparing, and shipping day old chicks, cleaning hatcher processing areas and associated duties.

About the role

You will assist in receiving eggs from breeder farms, preparing eggs for incubation; incubating eggs; grading, preparing, and shipping day old breeder poultry chicks while meeting all welfare, biosecurity, quality and safety standards.

Duties

· Prepare chick rooms for hatch day

· Day old chick processing

· Operation of Machinery including setup, cleaning and disinfection

· Manual transfer of chicks onto trucks

· Collect samples for testing

· Cleaning and disinfection of the hatchery.

· General housekeeping duties - maintaining all areas are kept clean and tidy

· Cleaning and sanitizing machines, floors, walls and ceilings.

· Understand and maintain strain security in the egg room,



incubation, transfer and processing

Must have

· Reliable and hard-working attitude.

· Ability to communicate and work well in a team.

· Able to comfortably reach above your shoulders, to a height of 190cm

· The strength to safely lift and carry up to 15kg

· Able to perform repetitive movements that can include, bending, lifting and twisting

· Meet Biosecurity standards (no contact with live birds, chickens or pigs) + follow shower in/out procedures.

· Have reliable transport to work

· Be available to work some weekends, although mainly Monday to Friday.

To be successful in this role you must be fit and healthy and be able to work on your feet all day; combined with the ability to meet biosecurity standards such as not having any outside contact with any live birds, chickens or pigs and also following shower in/out procedures to shower in and out at the beginning and end of each shift. As this is a unique industry, on-the-job training is provided and no prior experience is necessary.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour
