Due to our continued growth and ambitious vision for the future, Best Wilson Buckley Family Law is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Leadership Team. This role can be based in our Ipswich, North Lakes, Brisbane or Toowoomba office.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Chief Operating Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and operational success of the firm. As a trusted executive leader, you will be responsible for driving commercial performance, operational excellence and sustainable growth, while fostering a high-performing, people-focused culture.
Working in close partnership with the Managing Director, Chief Legal Officer and leadership team, you will oversee the firm's operational functions, including Finance, People & Culture, Marketing & Business Development, IT and Operations. You will ensure the business has the people, systems, processes and governance frameworks required to deliver exceptional client outcomes and support the firm's continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities:
As a valued member of our executive leadership team, you will be responsible for:
- Leading the execution of the firm's strategic plan and drive sustainable business growth.
- Taking ownership of the firm's operational and commercial performance,
ensuring profitability and long-term success.
- Leading and developing a multidisciplinary leadership team across Finance, People & Culture, Marketing & Business Development and Operations.
- Monitoring financial performance, including revenue, profitability, WIP, debtors, cash flow and productivity, providing strategic recommendations to the Board.
- Driving operational excellence through continuous improvement, technology and business process optimisation.
- Championing a high-performing culture by leading workforce planning, leadership development and employee engagement initiatives.
- Overseeing governance, operational risk management and business continuity planning.
- Lead the firm's marketing and business development strategy to strengthen brand awareness, client acquisition and referral relationships.
- Build strong relationships with the Managing Director, Chief Legal Officer and Board to support strategic decision-making and organisational performance.
- Implementing systems and processes to support the legal team.
Who You Are: You are an experienced executive leader who thrives on building high-performing organisations. You combine commercial acumen with exceptional people leadership and enjoy translating strategy into measurable business outcomes.
You will ideally bring
- Significant experience in an executive leadership role such as Chief Operating Officer, General Manager, Chief Executive Officer or Director of Operations.
- Demonstrated success leading business growth, organisational transformation and operational excellence.
- Strong commercial and financial management experience, including budgeting, financial reporting and performance analysis.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across operations, finance, HR and business development.
- Outstanding leadership skills with the ability to influence, coach and inspire leaders at all levels.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making capability.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including experience presenting to Boards or executive leadership teams.
- Experience within professional services, legal, accounting or consulting environments would be highly regarded.
- The ability to travel between offices.
