We are recruiting for a High Voltage Protection & Commissioning Engineer to join a leading electrical infrastructure contractor delivering high-voltage substation and power network projects across Western Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong background in protection systems, testing and commissioning to play a key role in the successful delivery of complex electrical infrastructure projects. Working alongside experienced engineering and construction teams, you will be responsible for planning, executing and supporting commissioning activities from installation through to energisation and project handover, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate and execute protection testing and commissioning activities for HV substations and electrical infrastructure projects.
- Perform testing, fault finding, commissioning and verification of protection relays, control systems and associated secondary equipment.
- Prepare and review commissioning documentation including commissioning plans, test procedures, switching schedules, ITPs, test records and completion reports.
- Support the development and implementation of protection schemes, relay settings and commissioning methodologies.
- Coordinate commissioning interfaces with engineering, construction teams, subcontractors, clients and network service providers.
- Assist with pre-commissioning inspections, punch list management and defect rectification.
- Participate in energisation activities, outages and commissioning programs while ensuring compliance with safety and permit-to-work requirements.
- Interpret electrical drawings, protection schematics, single line diagrams and wiring diagrams.
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with Australian Standards,



client specifications and quality management requirements.
- Provide technical support during project delivery, identifying and resolving protection and commissioning issues to minimise project risk.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned and commissioning best practices.

Required Experience

- Demonstrated experience delivering protection and commissioning activities on high-voltage transmission and distribution substation projects.
- Proven experience with IEC 61850, including GOOSE messaging and digital protection schemes.
- Experience integrating protection and control systems within brownfield transmission and distribution substation environments.
- Ability to review, interpret and implement IEC 61850 logic, protection philosophies and testing strategies.
- Strong understanding of the operational functionality of protection logic schemes and their interaction with SCADA, control and secondary systems.
- Hands-on experience testing and commissioning protection relays, IEDs and secondary systems using industry-standard equipment such as Omicron, CPC100, CMC or Doble.
- Experience with protection relay platforms including ABB, Siemens, SEL, GE, Schneider, Micom or equivalent.
- Ability to interpret single line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams and control drawings.
- Proven track record of delivering projects safely, compliantly and to a high standard of quality within live operational environments.
- Robust understanding of Australian Standards, electrical safety requirements, commissioning procedures and permit-to-work systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, construction and client teams.

Qualifications

- Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
- Full Australian working rights.
