About Us

Lifeline Regional SA & Far West NSW (LLSAFWNSW) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to an Australia free from suicide. We deliver a range of suicide prevention services, training programs, and community initiatives across Far West NSW and approximately 70% of South Australia. With Connect Centres located in Broken Hill, Clare and Port Pirie, we provide accessible, free support services to individuals and communities. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers work collaboratively to improve social and emotional wellbeing across our regions.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and community-minded Community Engagement Officer to join our team at the Broken Hill Connect Centre on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE). This role helps deliver the GambleAware program across Far and Western NSW by connecting with individuals, families and communities affected by gambling harm. The position focuses on community engagement, education and awareness raising, helping people access the right support at the right time. Working alongside the GambleAware team and community partners, the role builds relationships, increases awareness of gambling harm, reduces stigma and makes it easier for people to reach out for help.

The successful applicant will work closely with the GambleAware team in Broken Hill and a supportive team of counsellors, peer workers and other staff across Regional SA and Western NSW.

Key Responsibilities

- Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of the GambleAware Community Engagement Plan, ensuring engagement activities are responsive to the diverse needs of local communities, including Aboriginal communities, multicultural communities and other priority populations.
- Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with community organisations, clubs, schools, service providers, government agencies and other stakeholders to enhance service visibility and accessibility.




- Coordinate and deliver community events, workshops, information sessions and awareness campaigns.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand community partnerships that support mental health awareness and gambling harm minimisation initiatives.
- Represent Lifeline Regional SA & Far West NSW and GambleAware at networking forums, community meetings and interagency groups to strengthen sector connections.
- Develop and support delivery of an Outreach Plan across the GambleAware contract region, monitoring and evaluating its success and providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Increase awareness of gambling harm and available support services, and strengthen connections between community organisations and support services.
- Maintain accurate records of stakeholder interactions, engagement activities and reporting requirements.
- Participate in supervision, Communities of Practice and career development.
- Contribute to quality improvement and safe practice activities.
- Work collaboratively within a supportive team of counsellors, peer workers and community engagement staff.
- Uphold the values and standards of Lifeline Regional SA & Far West NSW.

Selection criteria - Essential skills and experience

1. Certificate IV or higher in Community Services, Social Work, Health Promotion or a related field (or working towards completion).
2. Experience in community engagement, community development, health promotion or related human services work.
3. Understanding of how to support people in a respectful, non-judgemental way that focuses on their strengths and goals.
4. Demonstrated ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with individuals, families and stakeholders.
5. Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.
7. Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
8. Sound computer literacy and administration skills.
9. Current NSW Driver Licence.
10. Current Working with Children Check.
11. National Criminal History Check.

Desirable

- Qualification in Health Promotion,



Public Health or Community Development.
- Gambling Skills Set, or willing to work towards attaining.
- Experience in community engagement planning and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience facilitating groups, workshops or community education activities.
- Knowledge of gambling harm and recovery approaches.
- Experience working in regional and remote communities.
- Understanding of community development and health promotion approaches
