Company Accountant About the Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Company Accountant to join a growing boutique construction and design company based in Perth. Since its establishment, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects and continues to experience steady growth with a healthy pipeline of work. Reporting directly to the Company Directors, you will take ownership of the company's finance function, ensuring the accuracy of financial information while managing the day-to-day accounting operations.
This is a key role within the business, requiring someone who enjoys working in a hands-on SME environment where no two days are the same. The successful candidate will provide timely financial reporting, manage cash flow, oversee compliance obligations, and support business decision-making. As part of a lean team, you will work across both transactional accounting and broader financial management, contributing to the ongoing success and growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Reporting - Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for the Directors.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Monitor financial performance and provide insights to support business decisions.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Prepare year-end financial information and liaise with external accountants.
- Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements and audit requirements (where applicable). Accounts & Bookkeeping - Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Perform daily and monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Process payroll and ensure compliance with payroll legislation.
- Prepare and lodge BAS, GST, PAYG and other statutory obligations.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
- Manage employee expense claims and company credit cards.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete and well maintained.
Cash Flow
Management - Monitor daily cash flow and working capital.
- Manage debtor collections and supplier payments.
- Prepare regular cash flow forecasts.
- Assist the Directors with banking and funding requirements as required. Compliance & Process Improvement - Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and taxation requirements.
- Maintain effective financial controls and accounting procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems and business processes.
- Support the ongoing development of finance policies and procedures.
Business
Support - Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Assist with project costing, pricing analysis and profitability reporting.
- Support the Directors with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across finance and administration.
Skills & Experience - Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualified (or working towards qualification) will be highly regarded.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Company Accountant or similar accounting role within an SME.
- Solid financial accounting and bookkeeping experience.
- Sound knowledge of Australian accounting standards, taxation and payroll compliance.
- Experience preparing management reports and financial statements.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using Xero, MYOB or similar accounting software.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously.
