Be Part of Something New!
Why join Compass?
This is an opportunity to help shape a growing program and support people with intellectual disabilities to work towards goals that matter to them.
You will be based in our new Nambour Centre and work alongside a team that believes meaningful employment can build confidence, independence, connection and a stronger sense of purpose.
The role will be diverse. One day you may be helping a Trainee develop an employment plan or practise workplace skills. The next, you could be meeting with an employer, creating a work experience opportunity, supporting staff or finding a new pathway for someone ready to take their next step.
Compass is excited to announce that our new Wabi Sabi retail space is expected to open within the next 4-6 weeks. As we put the finishing touches on the refurbishment, we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Support Trainer to take ownership of this exciting new retail space and program.
This is a unique opportunity to create an engaging retail learning environment where Compass Trainees can develop real-world retail skills while building confidence, independence and pathways into employment.
About the Role:
As the Wabi Sabi Support Trainer, you will lead the day-to-day operation of the retail program and create a positive, hands-on learning environment for Trainees.
This role is about much more than operating a retail store. You will help Trainees develop the practical skills, confidence and workplace behaviours needed to succeed in work experience and paid employment.
You will take ownership of the retail program, continually developing new learning opportunities while ensuring the store provides an outstanding experience for customers and the community.
Working Together:
You will work closely with the Employability Skills Team,
supporting Trainees as they progress through their employment journey.
Together, you will:
- Identify employment goals.
- Build individual workplace skills.
- Prepare Trainees for open employment.
- Celebrate milestones and achievements.
This collaboration is an important part of Compass’ employment pathway, ensuring Trainees can move confidently from learning, to work experience, and ultimately into meaningful employment. We’re Looking for Someone Who:
- Has previous retail, retail leadership or store management experience.
- Has experience working in the disability, community or NDIS sector.
- Is passionate about teaching, mentoring and supporting others to grow.
- Believes in the potential of people with disability to achieve meaningful employment.
- Has strong customer service and communication skills.
- Leads with patience, encouragement and respect.
- Can build positive and professional relationships with a wide range of people.
- Is organised, proactive and confident managing day-to-day operations.
- Can work independently while contributing positively to a broader team.
- Is committed to person-centred, asset-based practice.
- Understands the importance of creating environments where people feel welcomed, valued and included.
Position Requirements:
- Evidence of Australian working rights.
- Current Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Current Open Driver Licence.
- Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.
